Less than 24hrs after death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, UAE gets new President

In less than 24 hour after the death of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the United Arab Emirates has elected a new President.

The new President elected is Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the brother of the late President.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, 61, will be the country’s third president and 17th Ruler of Abu Dhabi.

His election was announced on Saturday by the Federal Supreme Council.

It was reported that the Federal Supreme Council convened at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi and unanimously elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed as the UAE president.

The new president is set to hold office for a five-year term before being eligible for re-election.

John Owolotan Okenla hailed from Itoku township in the Egba Alake section of Egbaland. The date of his birth is not known. He was from among the Egba people that migrated from the erstwhile homestead of the Egba (popularly called  Igbo Egba , Egba Forest) and who were en route from Ibadan to Abeokuta under the leadership of Chief Sodeke in 1830. University Union Demands 496bn Naira From Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has demanded the full release of 495 billion Naira, being the funds needed to revamp Nigeria’s  universities, as contained in an agreement entered into with the Federal Government seven years ago. The union said that the government had consistently reneged on the agreement. According to ASUU, the government’s technical committee, which reviewed downwards ASUU’s 1.5 trillion Naira estimate needed to lift the tertiary institutions from their current rot, to about 800 billion Naira. The National Centre for Education Statistics is an agency under the U.S. Department of Education.
