JUST IN: Bayo Adelabu dumps Oyo APC, says he must contest in 2023

Following the conclusion of the Oyo State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election which saw the emergence of Senator Teslim Folarin as the party’s flagbearer in 2023, Chief Bayo Adelabu, the runner-up, has decided to leave the party.

Eagles eye update earlier reported Teslim Folarin wins APC ticket, set to battle Seyi Makinde for governorship seat after polling a total of 954 votes to defeat five other aspirants including the party’s 2019 flagbearer, Bayo Adelabu, who polled 327 votes.

Displeased with the results, Adelabu and several others announced their decision to dump the party for a yet to be disclosed party. He vowed to contest the 2023 elections with his supporters assuring him of their ultimate support.

Adelabu while speaking on Sunday May 29, 2022 at his campaign office said success is sweet after the struggle and assured his supporters of victory in next year election.

He said; “We shall be successful. We will rescue Oyo State next year. We shall be victorious in 2023.”

Other leaders of the APC in Oyo State who aligned with Adelabu’s candidacy said in a joint release that; “We are solidly behind you. On your mandate we shall stand, Bayo. We will follow you to any party you go to realise your governorship ambition in 2023. We shall use all what we have to secure your mandate during the elections in Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun and the rest to ensure that you become the next governor of Oyo State.”

Some of the party members in support of Adelabu’s move include Senator Ayo Adeseun, Hon. Ademola Ojo, Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Dr. Olusola Ayandele, Chief Kunle Sanda, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Alesinloye, Mr. Bimbo Adepoju, Hon. Samuel Egunjobi among others.

Meanwhile, there have been rumours that Chief Adelabu has expressed interest in becoming the flagbearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of the state.

In a statement signed by him shortly after the APC primary election, he claimed that he neither participated in the elections nor has he moved to the SDP.

According to him, he will take appropriate steps after consultations in due course.

“As of today, I’m not a member of SDP or any other political party as being widely circulated by media organisations. Appropriate steps will be taken after consultations in due course,” Bayo Adelabu said.
