Qualification conversion: MLSCN adamant recommends eLab for students

Amidst the agitations by Medical Laboratory Technicians for the conversion of their professional qualification to academic qualification, the council was adamant and approve eLab training for Medical Laboratory Science students.

This was contain in the circular released by the council on May 26, 2022 with reference Number MLSCN/REG/CEO/VOL.1/037/2022 titled RECOMMENDATION OF ELAB ACADEMY ONLINE PRACTICAL PLATFORM FOR STUDENTS OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE.

The circular came after one month of agitation by the technician to convert their professional certificate to academic qualification, due to the circular from the office of the Head of service of the Federation.

The circular reads:

"RECOMMENDATION OF ELAB ACADEMY ONLINE PRACTICAL PLATFORM FOR STUDENTS OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

The Management of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria recently approved the contents and scopes of the online practical lectures on the platform of eLab Academy as useful tools Complementary to the regular practical organized by the Department.

The details of the costs of the program and modalities of enrollment of students as agreed with the Council by the Management of eLab Academy will be subsequently communicated by eLab Academy.

In the light of the above, the Management of MLSCN encourages the School authority to enroll and avail the Medical Laboratory Technician Students the opportunity to benefit from these resourceful and well-regulated online practical lectures.

2. Approval of Distance Learning for Technicians certificate holder to pursue their bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) by Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) at National Open University of Nigeria.

Other issues raised by the Technicians that are paramount than eLab includes:

1. Practicing license for Medical Laboratory Technicians instead of annual registration.
2. Adjustment of Medical Laboratory Technicians entry and termination points in civil service.
3. Nomenclature
4. Removal of the clause: Working under supervision.
5. Inclusion of Medical Laboratory Technician into the Council board.
