Elizabethtown College introduces new medical laboratory science program

Elizabethtown College is looking to fill in-demand healthcare jobs with a new program.

Starting in the fall semester, students can major in Medical Laboratory Science. The program features two paths: a traditional four-year degree or spending three years at E-town and one receiving clinical training in a medical lab.

“We often get students who have an interest in health care,” said Jeff Rood, a professor of chemistry and department chair at E-town. “They might not know what they want to do with that interest. So it’s just one more option for them to blend kind of the science and that health care field together for a career and one that is in demand.”

A recent study by the American Society for Clinical Pathology showed demand for jobs in the field is expected to grow by 8 and a half percent over the next decade
