NVP Southwest AMELTAN Respond To Open Letter

The National Vice President (Southwest) of the Association Of Medical Laboratory Technicians and Assistants of Nigeria (AMELTAN), Com. Ibikunle, had replied to the open letters written by a concerned Medical Laboratory Technician over the current status of the profession.

The Open Letter reads:
Good day, Comrades.

I am compelled to respond to this write up as the NVP AMELTAN South West.

I want to believe that I have the mandate of ALL MLT/MLA in the geo-political zone.

As the member of the National Working Committee of our Association, who by this privilege has access to what is obtainable on the above subject so referred to.

Let me tell you unequivocally, that senior colleagues, AMLSN were not happy about the breakthrough so achieved with the National Diploma curriculum development for MLTs. Recall that the militant arm of AMLSN (YOUNG SCIENTIST) was unleashed on our Association and MLSCN(Council) with the releases of different bulletins in the course of the curriculum development. It got so dirty that a protest was planned to oust the Register of the Council(MLSCN) in 2024. Also, ALL former Registers of MLSCN wrote a memo negating the then proposed ND academic program for MLTs. THIS ARE WEIGHTY MOVES TARGETED AT DERAILING OUR PROGRESS AS A BODY.

SUGBON, OLORUN NI OLORUN YOO MA JE!

Against all odds, we were able to get the curriculum developed, administratively positioned to be used for the admission of new students to study at accredited School of Health Technology in Nigeria. Bearing in mind, through JAMB so to have JAMB number for future use and reference.

Let me add at this junction that the  monies contributed by members were used to pursued this laudable project. Glory be to God, here we are now.

Academically, it is impossible to have a course of study at HND without ND; ND without HND. We have to accept this factual principle for us to move forward,  Sentiment apart.

The ND program which curriculum was developed has not kick start, we are at each others throats! We have been on this issue for decades, now that we have an edge way, should we kill ourselves? Asasi aiye/ota ko ni mu wa ooo,(plans of our enemies will not come to fulfillment in our lives), Amin!!!

Patient is a virtue, let us be patient a little more. The move for the actualization of HND will soon commence as students get admission to study ND Medical Laboratory Technician. Let's wait for the academic program to begins

As the focal person of the Zone, I have the responsibility to talk to any member of the Zone on issues in that capacity, making sure that all parties are soothe without bruises. My call to Comrade Osho Azeez is premised on this. Aside, he is my very good friend and a comrade of more than 14 years now.  In 2011, I was elected as the State Council's Chairman of AMELTAN Ondo State, he was then the Secretary of Ogun State AMELTAN. We know each others very well and our antecedents too....

I called him(Osho) on Saturday 15th February, 2025 to appeal to his person to allow the NWC to concentrate on the ongoing work(advocacy, lobbying and interfacing) with relevant organs of Nigeria Government to achieved desired goals for our Association and her members.

I know what it means for a former State Council's Secretary (a former National Executive Committee member) to write an open letter to the National President of an Association. The letter should have been a correspondence between the two of them. Issues raised by public opinions wouldn't have been an issue now.

Worthy of note here is the fact that we are achieving something worthy of celebrating, why are we negating ourselves???

I put my self to public scrutiny, I am not an AUTHOCRAT! I am a DEMOCRAT who believe in freedom of people. Freedom is relative, I will fight you if your exercised freedom is threatening my peace and the peace of collective others!

As a leader, decisions are taken for the benefits of ALL. The NWC of AMELTAN believe on this principle and working with it as a guiding star. Leadership is about critical thinking, detailing of every moves and logical decisions making for the benefits of majority of people in the community. AMELTAN is our community.

Fellow Comrades, let me assure you that we should remain calm, supportive and prayerful for the success of the present NWC to achieve her set aims and objectives. We are not leaving any stone untouched at seeing to the conclusion of this struggle, getting HND for MLTs.  MLSCN has been cooperating to some extent...

Internal wrangling will cause distraction and ultimately destroy the gains so far achieved. Let's work as a team, we are not competitors!

Criticisms are welcomed, not destructive criticisms or/and blackmails.

We can achieve greatness together. A maximum says, "in diversity we fall".

Congratulations in advance to ALL of us on this subject matter.

Solidarity forever!
