June 12 1993 Presidential candidate died at 75

A former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, is dead.

Tofa was the major opponent of Chief MKO Abiola of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the annulled June 12 1993 election by Gen Ibrahim Babangida.

Tofa, according to family sources, died at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in the early hours of Monday 3rd of January 2022 after a brief illness.

Confirming his death, one of the deceased relations, said: “Alhaji Bashir Tofa died after a brief illness.”

He was born on June 20, 1947.
