Former Nigerian leader Ernest Shonekan dies at 85

Chief Ernest Shonekan, the former head of the Interim National Government that succeeded the military junta of General Ibrahim Babangida, is dead.

Shonekan, a boardroom guru before his selection to head the Interim National Government, died in Lagos at the age of 85. according to TVC.

He was the Chairman of the interim National Government between August 26 and November 17 1993 when he was ousted in a palace coup led by late General Sani Abacha who was Secretary of Defence.

The management and staff of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), has announces the sudden death of the Council Registrar/CEO, Professor Tosan Erhabor, which occured on the 13th April, 2025. The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed the mist senior director in Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Donald Ofili, as the Acting Registrar/CEO following the death of Prof Tosan Erhabor. In a Press Release with a title: FG Appoints Ofili MLSCN Ag. Registrar/CEO  dated 28th April, 2025, states that Dr Ofili has been overseeing the council affairs since the passage of Prof Tosan Erhabor, and added that the letter conveying Dr Ofili's appointment was approved by the Minister of state for Health and Social welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako on behalf of the Federal Government. Folashade Yemi-esan and President Buhari The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, on Monday, said the Nigerian Medical Association and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, as well as their affiliates, were not recognised labour unions in the public service. The bombshell came during the opening  of the separate and joint meetings of the national public service negotiating councils, which was attended by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba.
