Abductors release Oyo medical doctor after receiving N3m ransom

Abductors of a private medical practitioner at Gbede in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, have released him after collecting N3 million ransom.

This was confirmed by the Chairman of the local government council, Mr Isaiah Adegbite.

Police spokesman in Oyo State, SP Adewale Osifeso, also confirmed the medical practitioner’s release in Ibadan on Wednesday, July 26, 2022, but was silent on the ransom payment.

The victim was abducted from his hospital premises on Friday and released on Tuesday.

A family source said that the abductors demanded N30 million ransom on Monday, but settled for N3 million after intensive negotiations.

Meanwhile, terrorists suspected to be bandits, have again invaded the New Millennium City Settlement, in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, kidnapping scores of residents.

According to reports, the attackers invaded the area on Monday night and carried out their operation for hours.

It was gathered that just three weeks ago, the terrorists attacked Sabon Gero community in the New Millennium City Settlement, killing a joint task force commander and a resident.

They also abducted 16 other members of the community, including a medical doctor, in what seemed to be a serial assault on the settlement.

According to a source, the late JTF commander opened fire on sighting the bandits “not knowing that the bandits had closed in on his team.”

“The bandits opened fire and hit the commander in his legs and he fell. They then shot him in the head, shattering his skull. A resident, who was hit by bullets, died on his way to a hospital,” the source had added.

In the fresh attack on Monday, SaharaReporters learnt that scores of residents were also kidnapped from the New Millennium City Settlement.

The Nigerian police and the military authorities have yet to comment on the latest assault.
