Oyo police arrest abductors of Alao-Akala farm supervisor

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 17 suspected kidnappers in different parts of the state for their involvement in some recent abductions. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Williams Adekunle, announced this in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Adewale Osifeso. Eight of the suspects were said to have carried out the  abduction of Christopher Bakare, who is the supervisor of the farm of the late former Governor of the state, Adebayo Alao-Akala. He was abducted on the farm in Jabata located in the Surulere Local Government Area of the state. Some of the eight suspects were also said to have kidnapped the owner of a private clinic, Dr Abdurasheed Oladoye at Gbede in the same local government area. The police noted that some items including a gun and expended cartridge as well as some cash were recovered from them. Suspected terrorists attack Niger-Abuja military checkpoint

Nigerian Army Photo: file A military checkpoint located at Zuma rock, a border between Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has been attacked by suspected terrorists on Thursday evening. Information on the attack is still sketchy as of the time of filling this report. However, it was gathered that the personnel of the Nigerian Army have embarked on a clearance operation after the attack. The incident was said to have caused gridlock in the area. Our correspondent also gathered that the Mandala-Kaduna road has been cordoned off by the men of Nigerian Army. Court sentences Kano school proprietor who killed 5-year-old Hanifa to death by hanging

A High Court in Kano has sentenced the Proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy and North West Preparatory School, Abdulmalik Tanko, the principal suspect who masterminded the kidnap and killing of 5-year-old school girl, Hanifa Abubakar, to death by hanging. This was according to judgment delivered by Justice Usman Na’abba, on Thursday, July 28, 2022. Recall, Hanifa was abducted on December 4, 2021, on her way home from Islamiyya and subsequently discovered to have been killed by the convict, who is her teacher and school proprietor, after demanding N6m ransom, at Dakata, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident resulted to public outcry in which the government was urged to ensure justice is served. Buhari convenes emergency security meeting as senators dangle impeachment

Many injured as gunmen attack Owo again, barely two months after massacre

Many people were said to have been injured after an attack by unknown gunmen in Owo, Ondo state. The incident was said to have happened on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Folahami Junction, where a construction company called Craneburg Construction Company was located. The attack is coming  barely two months after the massacre at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo state which led to the death of at least 38 persons. Eyewitness reports had it that the gunmen opened fire on those at the site. Another source who spoke on anonymity alleged that some explosives devices were also used during the attack. However, the casualty figure was yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report but many people were said to be injured in the attack. 2 dead as armed rubbers attack bullion van in Abia

The Abia state police authority, on Tuesday, revealed that a bank cash officer and an armed robber were killed  in a bullion van attack. The incident occurred at about 1:13pm at Ntigha junction along the Port Harcourt – Enugu Highway in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state. Nigerian senators have threatened to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over the country’s deteriorating security situation. At the commencement of plenary on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the lawmakers questioned Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on why the issue of insecurity was not in the Order Paper. The lawmakers were outraged by the terrorists’ threat to kill President Buhari, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other top Nigerian politicians.
