SCEFA celebrates Sickle Cell day

The sickle cell foundation of Abeokuta (SCEFA) joined the world to celebrate the United Nations and World Health Organisation's 2018 sickle cell day.

June 19th of every year was set aside by United Nations and World Health Organisation to enlightens people living with sickle cell diseases and to encourage their parents on what the future holds for them.

While speaking at this year's edition held at the Alake's Palace, Abeokuta, Ogun state, Dr Lukmon Adefuye, encouraged the people living with sickle cell to drink more water, and challged the parents to show live and care to their children.

The program had in attendance all professionals from all works of life including representative of the Head of service in Ogun state, representative of permanent secretary of the ministry of health, representative of the founder of The Royal Ladies Int'l, the number one nurse of Abeokuta north and host of others.

The program was also honoured by Indomie noodles, Bond Chemical pharmacy, MTN Nigeria, Hon. Olufemi Ilori, Alake of Egba land, Olu of Obada, Director and Chief Nursing officer of FUNAAB, Health centre, OOUTH (Saje annex) staffs and gentlemen of the press.

Sickle cell (SS or SC) is a disorder of the red blood cells that can be cause when sickle cell carrier parents (AS, AC) marry and gave offspring e.g if a man of genotype AS married AS there is possibility of having a child which is AA, AS or SS.

You never can tell when to have the SS, it could be the first child or the first two or three children, the only way to prevent it is through prevention.

Once you know your status, please prevent the coming generation from the scourge.

Madam Efunroye Tinubu

Born in the Egbaland of the Yoruba people of West Africa at the beginning of the nineteenth century, Tinubu learned commerce from her grandmother, a successful trader. CBN knocks banks for shunning eNaira

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday knocked commercial banks across the country for not promoting the e-Naira launched with fanfare by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), in October, 2021. The apex bank also explained the operational benefits of its newly introduced eNaira to the public. Officials of the CBN took turns in Kaduna on Wednesday to lecture youth corps members, hundreds of students from tertiary institutions across the state and other members of the public on the eNaira initiative. Head, Development Finance Department of the CBN, Aminu Muhammad, an assistant director, said financial institutions under the purview of the CBN were supposed to play these critical roles in growing our economy. Some of the athletes who will be representing Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are crying over their condition since their arrival in Scotland over the weekend. With the Games set to kick off on Wednesday, delegates from the participating countries are already on ground and could be seen on the streets of Glasgow, especially around the games village, rightly fitted with track suits bearing their national colours.
