Doctor, nurse arrested over abortion that led to death

A medical doctor, Olawale Raji and her staff nurse have been arrested over the death of one Aminat Atisola, who contracted them for abortion.

The incident was reported to have happened on Thursday, at an undisclosed area in Ota area of the State.

According to a statement by the Ogun State Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the doctor who is practising at a private hospital in the town with his accomplice performed the criminal act at the house of the victim.

The arrest of the duo followed a complaint by the deceased sister, Bose Kazeem, to the Police, at Onipanu Division.

The victim died following complications that arose as a result of abortion of two months old pregnancy.

The deceased was said to have died on the way, while she has been taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.

Her remains had been deposited at the General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

The State Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed iliyasu had directed that the suspects be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution.

He equally warned that abortion remains an unlawful act and whoever caught engaging in it without any medical justification would have the law of the land to contend with.

The CP further appealed to members of the public to always seek lawful professional advice on any health-related issue.
