Glory Okolie Was Rearrested for Withdrawing Money From Her Account

Glory Okolie, the 22-year-old lady rearrested eight days after freedom, has been released.

Glory was first released 248 days after the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) arrested her as bait to apprehend Uzoma Emojiri, an alleged commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Eight days after, she was rearrested just for withdrawing money from her flagegd account.

Samuel Ihensekhien, the Abuja-based lawyer representing Glory, said, “When the Imo State Police PRO was reached on phone, he said Glory was arrested again because she went to her Owerri bank to withdraw money from her account, which had been flagged by the IRT before her arrest and eventual bail.”

He told FIJ that Glory was released around 5 pm on Friday, but her account is not yet completely accessible.

On June 17, 2021, the IRT arrested Glory and held her as a maid for several weeks. All the while, her family was visiting hospitals and mortuaries in search of her.

In late June 2021, a young man released from IRT custody in Owerri informed them that he saw her in detention. He stated that the officers had turned her into a maid who cooked and cleaned for them.

Behind Bars Right Initiative (BBI)a human rights group fighting Glory’s course, said the IRT detained her as a pawn to arrest an IPOB member with whom she was in a relationship. She was later transported to an Abuja jail and identified as an IPOB member.
