Paul Pogba has been Banned from Football for Four Years

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba’s footballing future has been cast into uncertainty following a four-year ban imposed on him due to failed doping tests. The Frenchman, known for being one of the best midfielders, faced a dramatic turn of events when he tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone on September 11, 2023. This initial positive test led to Pogba’s exclusion from play, and he has not appeared for the Bianconeri since then, marking a significant break in his career. Subsequent tests, including a ‘B’ sample, reaffirmed the initial findings, prompting a provisional suspension and triggering a prolonged legal battle. Despite efforts to defend himself, Pogba’s case was met with a resolute decision from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal, which accepted the Anti-Doping Prosecutor’s Office’s plea for a four-year ban. Tanzanian Ex-President who launched country's free market, dead at 98

Former Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, credited with ushering the East African nation into free market economics, has died at age 98, current President Samia Suluhu Hassan said on Thursday in a television broadcast. Mwinyi succeeded Tanzania's first post-independence president, Julius Nyerere, who left office in 1985 after 22 years in power. "On behalf of the government, I would like to convey my condolences to the family, relatives, friends and all Tanzanians for this loss," President Hassan said. Mwinyi was credited with introducing free market policies and was in turn succeeded by the late Benjamin Mkapa in 1995. President Hassan said Mwinyi died in hospital in Dar es Salaam where he was receiving treatment for lung cancer. He had been receiving treatment since November, Hassan said. © Reuter

LABOUR DECLARES MASS PROTEST NATIONWIDE OVER HARDSHIP

Sequel to the worsening economic hardship in the country, the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has declared a two-day nationwide mass protest for February 27 and 28. NLC President Joe Ajaero, made this known on Friday during a press conference at Labour House, Abuja. NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, had on February 9, issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement agreements reached with workers to ease economic hardship in the country.

Oyo Govt Closes Six Health Facilities Over Quackery

The Oyo State Government, has shut six health facilities across the state over quackery. The six health facilities sealed committed various offenses, including recruitment of unqualified personnel to provide medical services and engage in illicit practices. Speaking during an inspection and monitoring exercise held within the Ibadan metropolis, the State Antiquackery Task Force Committee Chairman, Dr. Adekunle Aremu said the team carried out the operation as part of the government’s efforts towards protecting the health and well-being of residents. Dr. Aremu said the Oyo State government would not tolerate any form of quackery or substandard practice in the health sector. He added that anyone found culpable would face the full wrath of the law. He urged the public to report any suspicious or illegal activity in any health facility to the Ministry of Health or the nearest security agency. Oyo state police command recovered baby items and car 6 months after stolen by armed robber.

The Oyo state Police command was on Wednesday 14th February shared a heartfelt story of a couple who were robbed, sometime in July 2023, when the woman was having a labour pain. The woman was said to have been beaten up and the husband was almost killed by the robber, this was made available on their official X handle (formally Twitter) @OyoPoliceNG They added that "The robbers cart away the baby items and their victim's car (Toyota Versa). The gallant and vibrant officers recovered all the stolen items after 6 months. The post read: "It was a clear dark night mid July 2023 when Lara and her husband (Not their real names) were heading out to the hospital. Lara was already feeling labor spasms and hubby had to hurry. They were attacked by a suspected robbery syndicate who beat Lara up.
