Abeokuta experienced the first rain of the year

It was a sigh of relief and comfort for the people of Abeokuta and its environ as they experienced the first rain of the year on Thursday, 24th January 2019. The rain that lasted some minutes was described by many as comfort and calmness from the heat earlier experienced due to the dry season, and was seen by some as an escape from the dust caused by some ongoing road construction in some places like Kuto, FUNAAB road, Lanfenwa and others. The rain that started at few minutes past 12noon was said to caught so many people unaware and was described as groundbreaking and a sign of great expectations.

2019: INEC releases full list of presidential candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of presidential candidates ahead of the forthcoming February elections. The list which was signed by INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony was released on its official Twitter handle, with names of the political parties, their presidential candidates and running mates. On the list are candidates and their running mates to include president Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo both of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi were equally included. INEC releases election guidelines, bans collation officers from making calls

Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released a 33-page regulations and guidelines for conduct of future elections in the country. Accordingly, the commission has banned collation officers from making or receiving telephone calls in the line of duty. INEC said:  “In order to remain focused on their assignment, collation officers are not allowed to make or receive telephone calls during collation.’’ One of the contentious issues in the aftermath of the September 22, 2018, governorship election in Osun State was the decision of the Chief Returning Officer to pick call in the middle of the declaration of results, an action viewed by many partisans as having influenced the final declaration of results. INEC The commission also banned public officers from standing as polling agents for political parties, except where the officer had resigned at least 90 days before the polls. Ibrahim Idris To Quit As Buhari Picks Adamu As New IGP

The mood at the Force Headquarters was calm when the news of the replacement filtered in. It was also gathered that the outgoing IGP had been quietly removing his personal effects from the office since last Friday. There are indications at the Force Headqaurters in Abuja that a new Inspector General of Police (IGP), AIG Abubakar Adamu Mohammed (pictured right, with Governor Serikae Dickson) from Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, has been appointed to replace Ibrahim Idris, who is scheduled to retire from office. Adamu was AIG in charge of Zone 5 Benin before he was sent to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru in Plateau State. He was said to have been sent on the compulsory course on the suspicion that he was pencilled down by the presidency to succeed the outgoing IGP. The management of University College Hospital, Ibadan, mourns the demise of a Professor of obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor Fawole Adeniran, who died on Wednesday, 9th January, 2019.   The institution made this known on their twitter handle that reads "It is with great regret that we announce the demise of Professor Fawole Adeniran of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department UCH, Ibadan. Professor Fawole passed away on Wednesday, 9th January, 2019" "Before his death, he was a distinguished fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, he was also awarded a fellowship by the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health. Road project: Residence seek government intervention

The people living in Idi apẹ, Bibilari, Bashorun, Akobọ and environs in Ibadan north and Lagelu local government area of Oyo State has called on the state government to complete the ongoing road project in the area. While speaking to our correspondent, a residence plead on the state government led by the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to make use of the dry season to complete the road project. Another person speaks on the dusty experience of the road, and attributed it to health issue. UNICEF welcomes the first baby of the year in Lagos

The United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF) has welcome the first baby of the year 2019 in Lagos state. The baby was born at exactly 12:00am on Tuesday first of January, 2019 at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. UNICEF made this known in their Twitter post that read: "Join us in welcoming this little one into this world! The first baby of the year born at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital at 12.00am. Both baby & mother are doing well. "Glory to God for helping me to deliver safely," says the proud mother. #EveryChildALIVE #HappyNewYear".
