OYO GOVT BEGINS FIRST INTERNATIONAL TOURISM SUMMIT


The Oyo state first ever International Tourism Summit themes, Unlocking Oyo State’s Tourism Potential commenced on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan with stakeholders in the industry from far and near in attendance.

The Chairman of the occasion and former Minister of Industries, Chief Onikepo Akande said tourism contribute immensely to economic growth in the state, with the attention given to the sector by the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration. The Minister for Tourism, Lola Ade-John while lauding the state government for organizing the summit, said tourism has potentials for job creation and economic development, hence deliberate and sustainable efforts towards creating a vibrant tourism industry is an investment in the right direction. President, National Association of Tours Operators, Mrs Imeh Udoh, and The Osun State, Commissioner for Tourism, Hon. Ojo Abiodun on behalf of Commissioners of tourism in South West, charged the present administration to set machineries in motion for successive administration to build on towards promoting tourism in the noting that the state is well endowed in potentials. Former Governor of Cross River, Donald Duke observed that the state is really blessed with beautiful sites capable of projecting the state's image and as well boost its economy. The opening session gathered eminent personalities including the State Governor, Seyi Makinde, deputy governor, Bayo Lawal, bureaucrats, captains of industries, political functionaries, traditional rulers among others .
