First electric bus launched in Oyo

The first Electric Bus has been launched in Ibadan, Oyo state. Performing the launch on Friday, an Ibadan based business man, Engineer Dotun Sanusi disclosed that the pilot Scheme For Okada, Tricycle Riders would be carried out in Ona Ara life local government area soonest. Sanusi said the  initiative is aimed at marking a pivotal move towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future for the growth and development of Oyo State. He stated that the significance of this initiative to Ona Ara local government underscored his commitment to substantially reducing the carbon footprint and modernizing its transportation system. The 100 seater bus was driven from Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort in Akanran, to Amuloko and Olorunsogo amidst applause and cheers from residents. Abuja American School writes EFCC, to refund Yahaya Bello’s $760,000 children’s school fees

Yahaya Bello The American International School of Abuja has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to provide “authentic banking details” for the refund of fees paid for the children of Yahaya Bello, immediate-past governor of Kogi state. Bello allegedly paid $720,000 in advance as fees for five of his children from the coffers of the Kogi State Government. The children are in Grade Levels 2 to 8 at the school. On April 17, EFCC operatives laid siege on Bello’s residence in Abuja in an attempt to arrest him over an alleged  N80.2 billion fraud . While the operatives were at the house, Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, arrived at the property and reportedly whisked Bello away. In a letter addressed to the Lagos Zonal Commander of the EFCC, the school said the sum of $845,852 has been paid in tuition “since the 7th of September 2021 to date.” AISA said the sum to be refunded is $760,910 because it had deducted educational services already rendered. “Please forward to us an offic

A Nigerian social media entrepreneur, Clara Kronborg, has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing. Kronborg, who grew up in Onitsha, a metropolitan city in Anambra State, shattered the record with an average time of 55 hours and 24 seconds, beating the previous record holder, Rob Oliver from the United States, who did 37 hours and 44 minutes in 2022. She hosted a talk show on YouTube titled “Women’s World Show,” on which she interviewed 90 people of various nationalities and occupations, including politicians, business owners, content creators, actors, real estate agents, and many others. The conversations centred on how each guest succeeded in their respective field. The new prices will take effect from May 1, 2024, a few months after its last price upward review. Popular chess master,  Tunde Onakoya , on April 15, joined the league of Nigerians who have won the Guinness World Record. The 29-year-old Onakoya broke the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon in New York’s Times Square when he reached the 60-hour mark, surpassing the previous record of 56 hours and 9 minutes. The previous record of 56 hours, 9 minutes, was held by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad in 2018. The Guinness Book of Records is a reference book that chronicles human and natural world records. It was first published in 1955 by the Guinness Brewery in Ireland and has since become one of the world’s most well-known and frequently read reference books. Nigerian government shuts Chinese supermarket over discrimination in Abuja

The Federal Competition and Consumer and Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed up an Abuja-based Chinese supermarket located at the China General Chamber of Commerce. The FCCPC officials shut the supermarket when they stormed the premises on Monday.  The commission’s officials sealed the place after interrogating Nigerian workers at the supermarket.  The workers — mostly Nigerians — stated this on Monday when the officials of the Federal Competition and Consumer and Protection Commission (FCCPC) stormed the supermarket. The workers said that the owner of the supermarket, a Chinese lady, Cindy Liu Bei, fled on Monday morning at 8:26am with her family as confirmed on the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera. The Federal Government has announced plans for a brand-new National Identification card, and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has provided more details about the card. In a statement released on Friday, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Kayode Adegoke, shed some light on what we can expect from this new ID card: “The card will be powered by the AFRIGO card scheme, an indigenous scheme powered by NIBSS. NAFDAC Shuts Popular Ibadan Supermarket Over Alleged Sale Of Fake Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) has sealed a popular groceries and cosmetics supermarket, Pinnacle in Dugbe area of Ibadan over sale of fake products. The supermarket, usually a beehive of activities was now a shadow of itself as the gate leading to the premises was shut with an inscription directing customers to its branch at Challenge. Management of the supermarket cited technical issues as reason for its closure. An inside source who pleaded for anonymity however revealed that problem started on Tuesday, 2nd April , 2024 when NAFDAC surveillance team stormed the mall to enforce total shutdown of the premises, thereby forcing shoppers out of the supermarket. “The NAFDAC team came inside the mall and told us to close, even though people were many inside who wanted to do shopping but they couldn’t because the technical issue started and they all went away in disappointment”, the source said. Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday, April 12, 2024, sentenced Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, to six months imprisonment over mutilation of the Naira notes. He was arraigned on Friday, April 5, 2024, on a four-count charge bordering on mutilation of the Naira notes to the tune of N490,000,00 (Four Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira). Count one reads: “That you, OKUNEYE IDRIS OLANREWAJU, on the 24th day of March, 2024, at Imax Circle Mal, Jakande, Lekki, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, whilst dancing during a social event, tampered with the total sum of N400,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira) notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.”
