NCCC LAMENTS RESURGENCE OF BRUTAL KILLINGS IN THE NORTH CENTRAL STATES

The North Central Citizens Council (NCCC) a social cultural organization has lamented the increase in banditry activity that has resulted to lose of many lives within the zone in past months.
According to the Coordinator of the group, Comrade Mohammed Eneji stated yesterday in Abuja that the current state of insecurity in the zone calls for more concern and it is time for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately begin the implementation of the State of Emergency on Food Security as it was declared by him some weeks ago.

People have continued to lose their lives due to activities of Banditry, Kidnapping and Herdsmen/farmers crisis, this calls for great concern, most of this persons are local farmers working to provide food for this nation and put food on the table for their families, allowing our people to die in this manner is cruel and totally unacceptable. We hereby demand that the President of Nigeria immediately activate and implement the state of emergency he declared on Food Security, the Coordinator stated.

The resurgence of brutal killings, which increased since May 2023, claiming over 1200 lives within three months, has become a major threat to the N28 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) puts the GDP of the six states in 2021 as N4.58 trillion (Niger); N4.27 trillion (Benue); N3.69 trillion Kogi); N1.86 trillion (Nasarawa); N1.50 trillion (Plateau) and N1.38 trillion (Kwara)

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has a GDP of N10.6 trillion according to figures released by the NBS for 2017 year making the GDP of the six states and the FCT amount to N28 trillion. These means that that the economic growth of the zone keeps retarding by the day. We also want to call on the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle to immediately find a solution to this gruesome killings going on in Zone, Eneji added.
