UCH sets to launch App to improve quality healthcare

Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge has announced that the hospital was launching its app as part of its drive to improve patient care and services.

Professor Alonge, who made the disclosure at the hospital’s first colloquium lecture to herald the hospital’s 60th anniversary, said the hospital’s app  will have in it treatment protocol, information on its services among many other things.

The hospital’s app, among other innovations being put in place at the hospital, he said were all aimed at ensuring the hospital moves forward on its mandates.

Professor Alonge said that the hospital in its 60 years of existence had undergone a lot of challenges, including brain drain in the 90’s and economic recession that made it become a laughing stock at a time.

“It was so bad that sterilisation of hospital instruments was done outside. When I came back in 1995, we could have 10 patients die in neurosurgery department consecutively because the instruments were not good enough. They ended up with brain abscess.

“That was the ugliest part of the face of UCH. Besides, for three months the operating theatre did not work,” he said.

The CMD, who assured that services had now come alive at the hospital, praised efforts of the past staff of the hospital who took time out to up the hospital’s standard.

Dr Abayomi Oshin in his lecture, “Physiotherapy: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” who went through the memory lane of physiotherapy at the hospital, urged physiotherapist in the hospitals to purse research activities and specialists training for an increased patient benefit.

Oshin, Africa’s first physiotherapist, also urged the Federal Government to provide more funds for the hospital, saying this would further ensure the hospital could deliver on its mandates.
