Planets, moon put on a bright show in the New Year's sky

The waning crescent moon and a bright Venus were visible on Jan. 1For some skywatchers, Mars and Neptune could be seen, too

(CNN)If you ever see a particularly big, bright star in the night sky, chances are it may not be a star at all. It is probably Venus, the brightest planet visible from Earth.

Such was the case on Sunday night, when an especially bright Venus paired up with a waning crescent moon, creating quite a sight for skywatchers.

According to EarthSky, Mars was also visible, although much smaller and not as bright. And for those with a telescope and some astronomical sleuthing skills, a glimpse at Neptune rounded out the planetary pageant.

Chief Ebola Doctor Contracts Ebola

A doctor who has played a key role in fighting the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone is infected with the disease, according to that country's Ministry of Health. Dr: Shelk Humarr Khan is being treated by the French aid group Medecins Sans Frontieres - also known as Doctors Without Borders - in Kailahum, Sirra Leone, Tim Shenk, an agency spokesman, told CNN. Until falling ill, Khan had been overseeing Ebola treatment and isolation units at Kenema Government Hospital, about 185 miles east of the capital Freetown. Citing patient confidentiality, Shenk declined to provide additional details about Khan's condition.The Ministry of Health took to Facebook to deny reports te doctor had died. FG declares Monday as public holiday

The Federal Government of Nigeria has through the Ministry of Interior declared Monday 13th of June, 2022, as a public holiday to mark the 2022 Democracy day. The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made this known in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr M. L. Shuaib Belgore, on Thursday. Kenya coins replace leaders with animals

copyright KENYA CENTRAL BANK Kenya has dropped the images of presidents from newly minted cash coins, in what is seen as an attempt to prevent their glorification. Previous coins bore the images of Kenya's three ex-rulers: Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki. Many Kenyans saw this as an attempt by their leaders to promote themselves, and to personalise the state. The new ones have images of the country's famous wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes and rhinos. President Uhuru Kenyatta - the son of Kenya's first leader Jomo Kenyatta - said the new coins were a "big change" and showed "our nation has come a long way". All three of the incumbent's predecessors had their images printed on the currency during their rule. 1. Objective The objective of the Sickle Cell Test was to detect the presence of Hemoglobin S (HbS), which caused sickle cell disease or sickle cell trait. The test aimed to screen or diagnose individuals who inherited the mutated beta-globin gene. 2. Principle The principle of the test was based on the fact that Hemoglobin S polymerized under low oxygen tension, causing red blood cells to become crescent or sickle-shaped. These abnormally shaped cells were detected microscopically (sickling test), through solubility tests, or by electrophoresis to differentiate hemoglobin types. 3.
