HYPERTENSION

Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of blood vessels, and the magnitude of this force depends on the cardiac output and the resistance of the blood vessels.

Fast facts on hypertension

Here are some key points about hypertension. More detail and supporting information is in the body of this article.

1. Hypertension is defined as blood pressure higher than 140 over 90 mmHg (millimeters of mercury).

2. A diagnosis of hypertension may be made when one or both readings are high: systolic (the pressure as the heart pumps blood around the body), given first; or diastolic (pressure as the heart relaxes and refills with blood), given second.

3. Modern lifestyle factors are responsible for a growing burden of hypertension: physical inactivity, salt-rich diets with processed and fatty foods, and alcohol and tobacco use.

4. High blood pressure can also be secondary to other conditions - kidney disease, for example - and can be associated with some medications.

5. Hypertension itself does not cause symptoms but in the long-term leads to complications caused by narrowing of blood vessels.

6. Doctors diagnose high blood pressure over a number of visits using a sphygmomanometer, which involves applying an inflatable cuff to the upper arm.

7.Lifestyle measures are used first to treat high blood pressure, including salt restriction and other dietary changes, moderation of alcohol, and stress reduction.

8. One or more drugs from a number of different classes may be used for treatment.

CAUSES OF HYPERTENSION.

Hypertension or High Blood Pressure can either be hereditary, ie inherited from parent's blood or caused by bad  lifestyles.
Some may indulge in bad lifestyles like excessive alcohol  drinking, smoking and eating of junk foods, and yet they don't have hypertension. This is bcos it is not in their blood.
If one or both your parents had hypertension, there is more possibility of you having it,though it doesn't ordinarily manifest until after the age of 40 years.
Other factors that can bring about hypertension are obesity, diabetes, kidney diseases, etc.
The only test to know whether you have hypertension or not is to check your Blood Pressure regularly.
The average Blood Pressure reading for a man is 120/80..
For a woman it is 110/70.
For both male and female, it tends to increase with body weight, ie,the fatter you are the more likely your Blood Pressure will go up.
For women, the Blood Pressure varies..
During menses it comes down a little..
During pregnancy it comes down a little, except in conditions of pre eclampsia, when the feet of the pregnant woman gets swollen, then it goes very high.
For men, blood pressure goes up when he is aroused and comes down after he ejaculates.
Some drugs like Viagra, and some other Chinese capsules for MANPOWER  can  make the blood pressure rise up very high, and won't come down after ejaculation.
That is why you hear that some men suddenly die while having intercourse with a woman.
