WYC: Garba worried over Flying Eagles’ defence

Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba, has admitted the defence remains his major worry going into the FIFA U-20 World Cup, while at the same time saying his attack will be the most lethal in New Zealand. “We still need to work on our defence. This is where we need to work on before the World Cup kicks off,” africanFootball.com quoted Garba as saying on Thursday. “The mental speed of the players (has to be better) – they do recover in good time, but they often fail to do the marking when it matters most, to close up on the opposition. “But I believe before the World Cup, the defence will be a lot tighter because we will surely work on those areas. This is the major weakness of this team.” However, the Flying Eagles has an embarrassment of talent to choose from in attack with the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success and Kelechi Iheanacho on top form and scoring goals for the coach to say his strike force will be the deadliest at the World Cup “The midfield is the main strengt

Hemophilia

Image
Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery. Blood contains many proteins called clotting factors that can help to stop bleeding. People with hemophilia have low levels of either factor VIII (8) or factor IX (9). The severity of hemophilia that a person has is determined by the amount of factor in the blood. The lower the amount of the factor, the more likely it is that bleeding will occur which can lead to serious health problems. Causes Hemophilia is caused by a mutation or change, in one of the genes, that provides instructions for making the clotting factor proteins needed to form a blood clot. This change or mutation can prevent the clotting protein from working properly or to be missing altogether. These genes are located on the X chromosome . Males have one X and one Y chromosome ( XY ) and females have two X chromosomes ( XX ). Male

The 23-year-old started his remarkable treble in the 13th minute at St Mary’s Stadium when he rolled the ball into an empty net after getting a fortunate deflection off Villa goalkeeper Shay Given. Mane’s second came just 84 seconds later when he latched onto Ron Vlaar’s underhit backpass and beat Given again, and he completed his treble with a superb first-time finish into the top corner from Shane Long’s cut-back, making him the only player in Premier League history to have scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of a match. Drug-resistant 'superbug' strain of typhoid spreads worldwide

LONDON - An antibiotic-resistant "superbug" strain of typhoid fever has spread globally, driven by a single family of the bacteria, called H58, according to the findings of a large international study. The research, involving some 74 scientists in almost two dozen countries, is one of the most comprehensive sets of genetic data on a human infectious agent and paints a worrying scene of an "ever- increasing public health threat", they said. Typhoid is contracted by drinking or eating contaminated matter and symptoms include nausea, fever, abdominal pain and pink spots on the chest. Untreated, the disease can lead to complications in the gut and head, which may prove fatal in up to 20 percent of patients. Vaccines are available -- although, due to limited cost effectiveness, not widely used in poorer countries -- and regular strains of the infection can be treated with antibiotic drugs. However, this study found that the H58 "superbug" version,

Widal test

Image
The Widal test is a presumptive serological test for enteric fever or undulant fever whereby bacteria causing typhoid fever are mixed with serum containing specific antibodies obtained from an infected individual. In case of Salmonella infections, it is a demonstration of the presence of O-soma false-positive result. Test results need to be interpreted carefully in the light of past history of enteric fever, typhoid vaccination, and the general level of antibodies in the populations in endemic areas of the world. Typhidot is the other test used to ascertain the diagnosis of typhoid fever . As with all serological tests, the rise in antibody levels needed to perform the diagnosis takes 7–14 days, which limits it applicability in early diagnosis. Other means of diagnosing Salmonella typhi (and paratyphi) include cultures of blood, urine and faeces . These organisms produce H 2S from thiosulfate and can be easily identified on differential media such as Bismuth sulfite agar
