Umahi wins Ebonyi in land slide victory

Ebonyi State Deputy Governor and PDP Governorship candidate, Engr
Dave Umahi won the April 11 governorship election after scoring
289,867 votes to beat his closest rival, Edward Nkwegu of the Labour
Party, who polled 124, 817 votes. The governorship candidate of APC,
Senator Julius Ucha came third with 27, 583 votes.
Announcing the result at the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC’s)
headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Collation
Officer and Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi
Azikiwe University, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku
declared that Umahi had met all the
constitutional requirements and returned
elected.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Chief Martin
Elechi was defeated in his home town in Ikwo
Local Council, as he was unable to deliver his
preferred candidate, Nkwegu.

It was a memorable experience as one of the son of the late veteran broadcaster, Mr Toba Opaleye, Oluwaseun Gbenga Opaleye tied the knot with Toluwanimi Olamide Sotayo, at the Celestial Church of Christ, Okejigbo Parish, Egba province B Headquarters, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The solemnization was witnessed by many officiating minister of the church on Thursday, 20th December, 2018. Why we arrest motorists with faded number plates – VIO

The Federal Capital Territory Vehicle Inspection Office (FCT VIO) says its arrest of motorists over faded vehicle number plates is not to extort them but ensure compliance with traffic rules. The FCT VIO Spokesperson, Mr Kalu Emetu, made the clarification following complaints by motorists over the issue. Some of the motorists said they were made to pay heavy fine of up to N20,000 and directed to procure a new number plate for no fault of theirs. The motorists said that the VIO should blame the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for the substandard number plates which fade easily, instead of heaping the blame entirely on them. Emetu, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja, that all vehicle number plates must be visible from at least from 50 meters, otherwise it was an offence to use it. Pro-democracy group condemns Nyako’s impeachment

A pro-democracy group, the Voters’ Assembly (VOTAS) has condemned Tuesday’s impeachment of Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako. The group, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Mashood Erubami, Wednesday, said Nyako’s impeachment set a new template for vindictive politics in Nigeria, describing it as an ominous sign that the 2015 election will be racked with possible catastrophes. SSANU protests sack of 23 FUNAAB workers, indicts EFCC

MEMBERS of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) yesterday rallied support for the 23 workers sacked by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun State. The association protested the sack by disrupting movement into the campus while they accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of betrayal by releasing the names of the whistleblowers to the management of FUNAAB. As early at 6.30am on Monday, the SSANU members blocked entrance into the Alabata campus of the university with bonfires and vehicles were used in blocking the road, just as the aggrieved protesters continued to chant various anti-management songs. But the university management reacted saying that efforts were being made to resolve the crisis. EFCC Arraigns Man For N16m Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 arraigned one Bashir Salihu before Justice M. Talba of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja on a 2-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and issuance of dud cheque. Salihu allegedly obtained the sum of sixteen million naira (N16m) as loan from one Ramatu A Isiaq for the construction of perimeter fence of Niger Delta Science, Technology and Bio Industrial Park in Sagbama, Bayelsa State. The accused is said to have promised to repay the loan with interest within three months but failed to do so. All efforts to recover the money proved futile.
