Cholera kills 20 in Rivers state

At least 20 persons have been reported dead following the
outbreak of cholera in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers
State, where 171 cases have been recorded. The state
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, disclosed this
in a statement he issued in Port Harcourt.
Parker, in the statement, said the local government area rapid
response team and the state emergency response team
responded swiftly.
The state emergency response team and the social
mobilization team, he said, were on ground to contain the
outbreak.
The commissioner stated that government had established two
treatment centres in Ebukuma and Okoli’ile to handle reported
cases, advising affected persons to access the facilities.
Parker urged members of the public to remain calm, as
situation was under control, adding that steps had been taken
to provide potable water in the affected communities.
