Mohbad’s family asks IG to disband police investigation team

The family of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Police Service Commission over the handling of the investigation into his death by the Lagos State Police Command. The head of the family’s legal team, Taiwo Odumosu, disclosed this in a statement he signed and sent to PUNCH Metro on Thursday. Odumosu in the statement noted that how the case has been managed raised serious questions about the officers’ professionalism, diligence, and integrity. The family specifically demanded the replacement and probe of all police officers involved in the case. While highlighting what he described as lapses in the investigation, Odumosu alleged that the officers in charge mishandled the crime scene. He stated, “Upon the initial report of Mohbad’s death to the Police, the crime scene was not cordoned off, a fundamental step in preserving critical evidence. The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria to address the long-standing demands of Nigerian nurses.  This decision was made during the NANNM's National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on August 28, 2024. The association is seeking: 1. Immediate Reopening of Nurses' Verification Portal:  The NMCN, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health, should reopen the verification portal to enable nurses to explore better opportunities, pursue further studies, and complete necessary tasks. 2. Enhanced Nurses' Salary Structure : Approval and implementation of an improved salary structure for nurses. Four Nigerians jailed in UK for forging over 2,000 marriage documents

A Woolwich Crown Court in London has convicted and sentenced four Nigerians for forging over 2,000 marriage certificates to illegally help people desperate to remain in the United Kingdom. UK Home Office Chief Immigration Officer Paul Moran described the development as an exploitation of people’s desperation following the court’s ruling on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.  The verdict was entered against Abraham Onifade (41), Abayomi Shodipo (38), Nosimot Gbadamosi (31) and Adekunle Kabir (54).  As reported by  Sky News , the Home Office alleged that the defendants were part of an organized criminal group that made fraudulent European Union Settlement Scheme applications for Nigerians.  The defendants implemented this through the provision of false Nigerian Customary Marriage Certificates and other fraudulent documentation aimed at helping applicants remain in the country.  Investigations showed that they carried out this enterprise between March 2019 and May 2019.  With the UK prosecution ha

The NMCN portal is a critical platform for nurses practising in Nigeria to get registered and be verified as qualified medical practitioners.  Hundreds of Nigerian nurses are currently stranded due to the continued closure of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) portal. SaharaReporters learned that the leadership of the NMCN closed the portal in February 2024 and this has brought the verification process for new nurses to a grinding halt, leaving many in limbo. The national assembly has urged the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to open its site and commence verification of Nurses and Midwives based on its former guidelines, not the revised guidelines for verification dated February 7, 2023, pending the conclusion of investigation by the House Committee on Health Institutions. This was disclosed in a letter dated 13th August, 2024, titled “Negative Portrayal of the House’s Resolution” and signed by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Sani Magaji Tambuwal, to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
