Banky W celebrates as he gets the highest number of votes in his polling unit in Lekki 1

Musician turned politician has taken to celebrating his victory after he won the highest number of votes in his polling unit in Lekki 1. The overjoyed celebrity also used the opportunity to address the trolls and haters who looked down on his ambition. Banky W got a number of 575 votes in Lekki 1 polling unit alone. This was against the 454 votes and 540 votes banked by the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party respectively. In celebrating his win, the happy celebrity shared the result of the election conducted in that polling unit on his Instagram page. From what he shared, it could be seen that he was leading prominently. Banky W also wrote a lengthy caption in which he thanked those who came out to vote for him. He also took a jab at those who did not believe in him enough to support him. Campaign goes wrong as Buhari, Oshiomhole pelted with stones in Ogun

The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign, Monday went wrong as hoodlums greeted President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole with stones at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta. "> Violence erupted as Oshiomhole was invited to the podium for his speech. Reports have it that as he began to speak, persons suspected to be hoodlums started throwing stones at him and one of the stones flew in the direction where the President was sitting. Buhari was saved by one of his security operatives who took the hit for him. No official statement has been made to know if the president or anybody sustained injury. Details later:

NEC, Agbaje trade words over seizing of non-indigenes’ PVCs in Lagos

NUC gives provisional licences to four private universities

The National Universities Commission, has given provisional approval to four new private universities to commence academic programmes. Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary, NUC at the presentation of the licences to the universities in Abuja on Tuesday, said the four universities had been under scrutiny since 2006. The  News Agency of Nigeria  reports that the universities are: Greenfield University, Kaduna State, Dominion University, Ibadan, Trinity University, Laloko, Ogun State, and Westland University, Iwo, Osun State. With the approval, Nigeria now has 79 private universities, and a total of 173 universities, private and public. Rasheed underscored the need to increase the number of universities in the country, taking into consideration the country’s 200 million population. He added that with the country’s population, only about two million students can access university education. “Only less than 6 per cent students’ enrolment is in private universities. “We hope t

AfDB, ECOWAS sign agreement on Lagos-Abidjan highway

The African Development Bank and the Economic Community of West African States Commission have signed an agreement for a study into a 1,000 kilometre highway linking Cote d’Ivoire’s commercial capital Abidjan to Lagos in Nigeria. In a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, the AfDB said that the agreement marked a new step in building regional integration and trade. The proposed Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway, a six-lane (3-lane dual) motorway, will connect the countries via Ghana (Accra), Togo (Lomé) and Benin (Cotonou). According to the bank, the agreement signed for a study on the technical, implementation and operational aspects of the project, comes nearly five years after the presidents of Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria, signed a treaty on the establishment of the highway in March 2014. New Jersey joins states like  New York  and  California  and cities like  Seattle  and  D.C.  in passing legislation that makes gradual progress toward the $15 milestone the law of the land. It’s a huge victory for workers and for Governor Murphy, who told  Teen Vogue signing the bill was an “incredibly gratifying moment” after promising the wage increase on the campaign trail. It’s also an especially big win for a collective of teenage activists who fought to make sure the increases wouldn’t leave behind people their own age. It’s insult to give Buhari 33% of the votes — Keyamo Williams  and Associates, the United States-based polling firm hired by Goodluck Jonathan administration ahead of the 2015 presidential election but predicted victory for Muhammadu Buhari has predicted victory for Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming presidential polls. The company in its analysis of Nigerian presidential election said Atiku will win with less than a majority of the votes cast with 45 per cent. Buhari, according to the polls, will take 33 per cent of the votes. The polling sample produced Kingsley Moghalu, the candidate of Young Peoples Party, YPP, with 9 per cent of the votes, Omoyele Sowore of African Action Congress, AAC, with 8 per cent of the votes. Hoodlums strip corps members, collect pants, sanitary pads

Two female members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC serving in Ebonyi state have become the latest victims of the pants for rituals practice presently ravaging the country. The two corps member, it was gathered, were reportedly forced by unidentified hoodlums to remove their clothes including their pants and hand them over to the hoodlums. One of the corps members, who was on her period also had her blood socked pants and sanitary pads taken away by the hoodlums. The incident, it was learnt, happened at Oshiegbe community, near the boundary between Ohaukwu and Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State. Senator Joseph Kennedy Waku, who represented Benue North West senatorial district in the National Assembly’s fourth republic, is dead. Waku reportedly died last night. His wife, Rosemary Waku, who is the Head of Public Affairs and Information unit of the Federal University of Agriculture in Makurdi, confirmed the husband’s death this morning by telephone. Mrs Waku, could not explain further as she broke down in tears. It is not yet clear where he died at the time of this report as unconfirmed sources alleged he died in the United States while others said the incident happened in Abuja while he was being treated of an illness. Waku hails from Guma local government area and held the traditional title of Wam Begha U Tiv (Son of a Lion). The late outspoken senator was born on June 12, 1946.
