Dogara hosts House of reps in Iftar
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara has called for sustained prayers by all Nigerians against security and economic challenges and for peace, unity and stability of the country.
The speaker made the call at an Iftar and prayer session he hosted for members of the House from North East, South west and South East geo political zones at the National Assembly.
While underscoring the importance of unity and sacrifice, the Speaker enjoined the people to continue to put the leadership of the country at all levels in prayers for wisdom and God’s guidance.
” The importance of this gathering is not about the food, but to reflect on the lessons of Ramadan which symbolizes self denial, sacrifice, love and sharing”.
” So it’s been a tradition that when we meet like this, we reflect on the sacrifices that we have been making for the advancement of our country, the people we represent at the National Assembly and democracy in general”.
” And apart from reflection, we also take out opportunity, cashing on this special moment of sacrifice and prayers to lift up our people before God, especially the downtrodden- those Who struggle to make ends meet, the very people we represent here and to also lift the leadership of this country- from Mr. President, the Vice President, the Leadership of the National Assembly, the Governors down to Local Government Chairmen and councillors for God to grant us wisdom and give us understanding, for God to open up doors of opportunity so that we’ll be able to meet the expectations of the people”.
” Things can happen quickly in life for which we cannot comprehend with our contemporary wisdom, in such cases we must desire wisdom from above, when such wisdom comes it corrects everything, so that is what we will be doing in this gathering today. We’ll pray for Nigeria, for our leaders at all levels, that God will give us wisdom and multiply the resources and in His mysterious ways, God will continue to meet the expectations of our people, especially those still struggling and may not even be able to afford what we are about to eat. We pray for the preservation of lives and property which is the responsibility of responsible governments, it does not matter where one is situated, in many states nationwide they are facing the adverse effects of terrorism and kidnappers. We will also be praying against insecurity, economic challenges and all other challenges that we face as a nation. I believe that God will hear our prayers and answer them”.
A special prayer session was led at the instance of the Speaker by Hon. Sidi Karasuwa from Yobe Yobe State.
The Iftar Dinner and prayer session will continue today with members from North West, South South and North Central.
