It is the relative measure of red cell present in a whole blood expressed in percentage. Protective Effect of Sickle Cell Trait Against Malaria-Associated Mortality And Morbidity

Only in some individuals do malaria episodes progress to severe life-threatening disease, while in the majority the episodes are self-limiting. This is partly because of host genetic factors such as the sickle cell gene. The sickle cell gene is caused by a single amino acid mutation (valine instead of glutamate at the 6th position) in the beta chain of the hemoglobin gene. Inheritance of this mutated gene from both parents leads to sickle cell disease and people with this disease have shorter life expectancy. On the contrary, individuals who are carriers for the sickle cell disease (with one sickle gene and one normal hemoglobin gene, also known as sickle cell trait) have some protective advantage against malaria. As a result, the frequencies of sickle cell carriers are high in malaria-endemic areas. Girl who was buried two years ago allegedly returns home

A huge crowd gathered at Ndola Central Police Station after a girl of Masala township in Ndola, Zambia who was believed to have died two years ago walked back to her parents’ home on Sunday. Her parents say the girl identified as Winnie Lufunja died after an illness and was buried at age 17, reports  Zambia Daily Mail.  The parents narrated that the body of their late daughter even went through a church service and body viewing before it was buried. Winnie was buried three days after her demise on November 12, 2016 in grave number 73, according to the Ndola City Council books. Her bones are still there, according to the findings of an exhumation done on Monday, along with the blue blanket, bottle and other items that her mother identified. The parents have also submitted the death certificate and birth certificate to the police to help establish the truth. Another prominent Nollywood actress, Motunrayo Adeoye, has died. The veteran Nollywood actress was reported to have died on Friday morning after battling chronic ulcer for several years. Motunrayo, was a popular Yoruba actress, who was among the 10 most featured Yoruba actresses in the industry and a niece to a top class traditional ruler in yoruba land, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, The Alaafin of Oyo. It was gathered that Adeoye was buried according to Islamic rites at her Akobo Ojurin, Ibadan, Oyo State residence yesterday. Another prominent Nollywood actress, Aisha Abimbola, popularly known as Omoge Campus, recently died in Canada.

ADC Formally Receives Isiaka In Abeokuta
