Olosunta Hills, Ikere Ekiti

Olosunta Hills also referred to as Olosunta Rock is located in a city called Ikere in Ekiti State. The people of Ikere-Ekiti reagard the rock as sacred and set aside nine days of every year to worship it. The festival attract tourists from far and wide. The Ugele hill is located just beside the rock. This hill was believed to provide refuge for indigenes who sought shelter at Olosunta Rock during the war time. According to the popular myth in Ekiti State, Olosunta is not a rock but a human being. As it is believed that Olosunta, a famous and popular man that once lived in Ikere, entered into the hill while trying to hide from his oppressors that wanted to kill him. The Olosunta Rock is unlike other rocks that tourists troop to for relaxation. People are not allowed to visit the rock on their own as there are grave consequences. People visit the rock only during festive seasons after performing some rites.

Best Time to Visit Olosunta Rock
The best time to visit Olosunta Rock is during the yearly nine days festival held by the indigenes of Ikere-Ekiti in honor of the rock. This festival is called the New Yam Festival and it alternates between July and August of every year depending on the season. During this period, tourists from all over the world also visit the Rock.

How to Get to Olosunta Rock
The closest airport to Olosunta Rock in Ikerre is Akure Airport. The distance from Akure Airport to Ikerre is 39.8 km (1 h 2 min). There are commercial buses in Ikerre-Ekiti to convey tourists to the site of the rock.
