Man dies while saving church member from electrocution

A young man has lost his life during an attempt to save another church member from electrocution.

Two members of the Dominion Grace Christian Centre at Mgbaja Ossah in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State have been electrocuted during their Sunday service.

According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the deceased identified as Chinweotito Ehiogu, was electrocuted during his attempt to save another church member, Chidiebere, who was already being electrocuted by a naked wire connected to the church's generator.

Ehiogu who was barefooted at the time was also electrocuted. Both victims were reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital where Ehiogu was confirmed dead but Chidiebere survived.

The eyewitness revealed that the corpse of the deceased was later brought back to the church premises for a series of prayers.

Confirming the horrible incident, the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Simeon Chibuzor, described it as unfortunate.

“The two people involved are my church members. The first person was asked to put off the generator, but he was trapped in the process.

“When he started shouting, Chinweotito rushed to rescue him and got electrocuted too. We got attracted and came around and separated them and took them to the hospital.

“When the first hospital was delaying treatment, we took them to another hospital where one of them was revived. He is still receiving treatment now, but unfortunately, Chinweotito could not make it. It is a painful thing indeed.”

When contacted, the State Police Public Relation Officer ASP, Ogbonaya Nta, revealed that the incident was yet to be reported to the State Police Command.

OPay launches ‘OBus’, a public bus hailing service, in Lagos

Opera-backed OPay formally launched OBus, a bus hailing service, in Lagos last Saturday. This is coming barely a week after the introduction of OTrike in Aba. In its plan to become a multi-service commercial internet platform, Opay which started as a mobile payments platform in 2016, has within the past months added motorcycle hailing, personal loans, food delivery and tricycle hailing to its list of services. NDLEA says they didn't torture actor while in custody

Following the death of an Ebola virus victim from Liberia, Patrick Sawyer, in Lagos, on Thursday, the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government have jointly launched a manhunt for some of the passengers of the airplane that brought the late Liberian into the country, Sunday Newswatch has learnt. Scores of workers of Premier Hotel in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have been disengaged Our correspondent learnt that Premier hotel, one of the edifices built during the defunct Western Region government, has shut down. Buhari’s Eligibility: Court Adjourns Hearing Till April 22, 23

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned hearing in all cases questioning retired General Muhammadu Buhari’s eligibility to contest in the 2015 presidential elections, to the 22nd and 23rd of April. The court also dismissed the application filed by two other parties one Ebunoluwa Adegoruwa, a human rights activists and another Chukwuma Ochu seeking to be joined in the suit. Trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola said the applicants are no more than meddlesome interlopers seeking to waste the time of the court and as such their applications concerning Buhari’s eligibility are frivolous and is thereby struck out. The two parties before the court had approached the court to be joined as defendants in the suit.
