Govt targets 2023 to stop open defecation

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of LG said the state govt is providing toilets along major highways towards the eradication.

The Osun State Government on Friday, October 7, said the state would be open-defecation-free by the year 2023.

The Permanent Secretary, Osun Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, Water Resources, Rural and Community Affairs, Mr Muftau Oluwadare, said this in Osogbo.

Oluwadare spoke at the debriefing meeting on review of Water Sanitation and Hygiene documents held at the ministry.

He said the state government is providing toilets along major high ways towards making the state open defecation free.

The permanent secretary called on stakeholders in the state to support the efforts of the government to realise this objective.

Mr Ademola Olanrewaju, the Project Coordinator of European Union Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme, said that there must be concerted efforts to achieve the set objective.

Olanrewaju presented the resolutions of the retreat on the water policy, water law, water supply and hygiene monitoring, evaluation framework and open defecation free road map.

He explained that the European Union has supported the state to develop some key strategic development documents for the water and sanitation sector.

However, he noted that some of the documents are out of tune with the realities in the state and called for review.

OPay launches ‘OBus’, a public bus hailing service, in Lagos

Opera-backed OPay formally launched OBus, a bus hailing service, in Lagos last Saturday. This is coming barely a week after the introduction of OTrike in Aba. In its plan to become a multi-service commercial internet platform, Opay which started as a mobile payments platform in 2016, has within the past months added motorcycle hailing, personal loans, food delivery and tricycle hailing to its list of services. And it doesn’t seem to be resting on its oars. OBus, like ORide and OTrike, is a commuter transit service that operates using branded hummer buses for intrastate trips within Lagos. NDLEA says they didn't torture actor while in custody

According to them, Babatunde Omidina (Baba Suwe) was not subjected to any physical torture during the period he was incarcerated by the agency. Ebola Victim’s Death: FG, Lagos Launch Manhunt for Co-passengers

Following the death of an Ebola virus victim from Liberia, Patrick Sawyer, in Lagos, on Thursday, the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government have jointly launched a manhunt for some of the passengers of the airplane that brought the late Liberian into the country, Sunday Newswatch has learnt. The late Sawyer, who was reported to have arrived Nigeria last Sunday aboard a Liberian carrier, Asky Airline, was said to be in company of over 100 co-passengers of different nationalities, among who were about 35 Nigerians. Scores of workers of Premier Hotel in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, have been disengaged Our correspondent learnt that Premier hotel, one of the edifices built during the defunct Western Region government, has shut down. The hotel is owned by Western Hotels Limited, a subsidiary of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, established by the defunct Western Region government. Buhari’s Eligibility: Court Adjourns Hearing Till April 22, 23

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned hearing in all cases questioning retired General Muhammadu Buhari’s eligibility to contest in the 2015 presidential elections, to the 22nd and 23rd of April. The court also dismissed the application filed by two other parties one Ebunoluwa Adegoruwa, a human rights activists and another Chukwuma Ochu seeking to be joined in the suit. Trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola said the applicants are no more than meddlesome interlopers seeking to waste the time of the court and as such their applications concerning Buhari’s eligibility are frivolous and is thereby struck out. The two parties before the court had approached the court to be joined as defendants in the suit.
