The real reason why NBC Director was arrested

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reportedly arrested the Director General, DG, of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Emeka Mba over an alleged diversion of N15 billion.

Mba is currently being interrogated by officials of the anti-graft body at the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja after his arrest on Monday 11th January, Post-Nigeria learnt.

It would be recalled that officials of the EFCC had few days back invaded the NBC headquarters, ransacking computers and files in the finance and accounts unit, allegedly, in search of documents to aide their investigation.

While some key staff of the commission were taken for questioning by the EFCC, it was gathered that confessional statements made, implicated Mba alongside top officials.

Meanwhile, the anti-graft agency had arrested former Chairman of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, following an investigation into the interim report of a 13-man presidential committee on the procurement of arms and equipment for the Armed Forces and the Defence sector from 2007 to date.

Mba is said to have allowed Daar Communications and other media houses air damaging documentaries against President Muhammadu Buhari and top chieftains of the All progressives congress, APC, prior to the 2015 general election.

It is believed that Dokpesi received money from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, for publicity and media campaign during the 2015 general elections.

However, a top official of the anti-graft agency who confirmed the arrest said: “Yes, he (Mr. Mba) is with us. We are investigating massive diversion of public funds and we are making progress. Mba definitely has questions to answer.”
