23 Die As Abandoned IEDs Explode In Mungonu

About 23 persons were killed while 45 others were injured
when Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs went off in Monguno
in Northern Borno State.

Sources say the incident which occurred on Tuesday evening
happened after youth vigilantes in the area successfully
chased away the Boko Haram militants who had come to an
attack mission.

The militants were said to have abandoned their weapons,
including the IEDs in polythene bags.

The abandoned weapons were taken into the town, where the
people had assembled to celebrate victory when the devices
exploded.

Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima who visited the injured
at the state specialist hospital in Maiduguri said the
government will bear the cost of treatment.
