Gunmen Invade Jeremiah Useni’s Home

Gunmen suspected to be hired assassins, in the early hours of Thursday, stormed the home of Jeremiah Useni, a former Abuja minister. Mr. Useni was, however, not at his Langtang north Local Government Area, Plateau State home, when the gunmen came. According to witnesses, the suspects shot at the building about 48 times. Mr. Useni, a member of the on-going National Conference, in a telephone interview with journalists on Thursday evening, confirmed the incident. The retired general said no lives were lost. “I was not there myself, but I was told of the incident. No one was killed, but I will later today (Thursday) visit the scene to see things for myself,” he said. The Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, of the Plateau State command, Abuh Emmanuel, also confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos.

A well known broadcaster and musician, Mr Oluwole Osikoya Popularly called Gbenga Allyson or Shoshogirisho, said in a media chat in Abeokuta that the last multi talented broadcaster, producer and entertainer, Prince Gbenga Adeboye, gave him his nickname. Okenla, John Owolotan (a.k.a. Balogun Onigbagbo Egba, from 1860-1888) c. 1800 to 1888

John Owolotan Okenla hailed from Itoku township in the Egba Alake section of Egbaland. The date of his birth is not known. He was from among the Egba people that migrated from the erstwhile homestead of the Egba (popularly called  Igbo Egba , Egba Forest) and who were en route from Ibadan to Abeokuta under the leadership of Chief Sodeke in 1830. He was probably a middle aged man at that time. He became a Christian when the missionaries arrived in Abeokuta in 1842 and was one of the early converts. University Union Demands 496bn Naira From Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has demanded the full release of 495 billion Naira, being the funds needed to revamp Nigeria’s  universities, as contained in an agreement entered into with the Federal Government seven years ago. The union said that the government had consistently reneged on the agreement. According to ASUU, the government’s technical committee, which reviewed downwards ASUU’s 1.5 trillion Naira estimate needed to lift the tertiary institutions from their current rot, to about 800 billion Naira. ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator, Professor Beke Sese, on Thursday told reporters in a press conference in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, that aside the initial tranche that was eventually released in 2013, the government had refused to credit a dedicated account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) set up for that purpose. By Musikilu Mojeed The American National Centre for Education Statistics has told PREMIUM TIMES that the Pacific Christian University, Glendale, which Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, claimed awarded her a doctorate degree, does not exist, confirming this newspaper’s Wednesday’s report that the minister’s purported honorary Ph.D is fake. The National Centre for Education Statistics is an agency under the U.S. Department of Education.
