Inside the SGF Office Syndicate: How ICPC Uncovered Phoney Government Agencies & Affected Permanent Secretaries Face Suspension

The federal bureaucracy in Abuja has been rocked by high-level corruption and administrative scandals following the unmasking of fake government agencies operating right out of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) blew the lid off a sophisticated syndicate—exemplified by phoney bodies like the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office—which was issuing fake appointment letters and shaking down state governments for "coordinators".

In response to the massive security and administrative breach, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the immediate suspension of three permanent secretaries and ordered the swift arrest of the masterminds behind the scam. Political analysts are calling this a wake-up call to tighten security and vetting processes within Nigeria's highest corridors of power.
