Ogun Police Neutralize Kidnap Kingpin, Recover Weapons and Cash

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the neutralization of a suspected kidnapping kingpin during an early morning operation at a hideout in the Orile Ilugun Forest, along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway.

According to police sources, the raid was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on May 19, 2026, following intelligence gathered after the release of a victim abducted on May 14 at Nufats Fuel Station in Odeda. The victim was freed unharmed on May 18.

During the operation, the gang reportedly opened fire on officers, sparking a gun battle. Police said their superior firepower led to the death of the gang’s leader, while other members escaped into the forest with injuries.

Items recovered from the scene include:
- AK-47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition  
- Two million naira in cash  
- Mobile phones belonging to the suspects  

The body of the deceased suspect has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while police say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang members.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the “gallantry and professionalism” of the operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes across Ogun State.
