FG Appoints Ofili MLSCN Ag. Registrar/CEO

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed the mist senior director in Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Dr Donald Ofili, as the Acting Registrar/CEO following the death of Prof Tosan Erhabor.

In a Press Release with a title: FG Appoints Ofili MLSCN Ag. Registrar/CEO dated 28th April, 2025, states that Dr Ofili has been overseeing the council affairs since the passage of Prof Tosan Erhabor, and added that the letter conveying Dr Ofili's appointment was approved by the Minister of state for Health and Social welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako on behalf of the Federal Government.

FG APPOINTS OFILI MLSCN AG. REGISTRAR/CEO

Dr. Donald Ofili, Deputy Registrar and most senior Director in Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, has been appointed the Acting Registrar/CEO of the agency.

Dr. Ofili has been overseeing the affairs of the Council since the passage of the late Registrar/CEO, Prof Tosan Erhabor. The letter conveying his appointment was approved by the Hon. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In addition to holding a doctorate in Hematology, Dr. Ofili is a Fellow of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, and the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science. He is also a member of several national and international technical working groups. A widely traveled Medical Laboratory Scientist, he has a reputation for insisting on the highest level of professionalism in official duties.

At various times he oversaw MLSCN's Continuous Quality Improvement programme, the National External Quality Assessment Laboratory (NEQAL) in Saye, Zaria, while his last position was Deputy Registrar/Director, MLSCN Accreditation Service.

He is expected to bring his impressive cognate experience to bear on his new position to expand the scope of Medical Laboratory Science practice in the country.

1. Objective The objective of the test was to determine the percentage of red blood cells (RBCs) in a given volume of blood, which helped assess anemia, polycythemia, and hydration status. 2. Principle The principle of the hematocrit test was based on the separation of blood components by centrifugation. When anticoagulated blood was centrifuged, red blood cells settled at the bottom, plasma remained at the top, and a thin buffy coat of white blood cells and platelets appeared in between. The packed cell volume (PCV) was measured as a percentage of the total blood volume. 3. The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government of Nigeria to address the long-standing demands of Nigerian nurses.  This decision was made during the NANNM's National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on August 28, 2024. NAFDAC seals shop for allegedly selling unregistered aphrodisiacs in Zuba

Nafdac Building The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, on Thursday sealed a shop in Zuba, an outskirt of FCT, for allegedly selling unapproved aphrodisiacs to Nigerians. Some of the aphrodisiacs are: garin yansun, sabon mai-siket, ruwan jaraba, tunkude, fenugreek powder and al-khausara herbal syrup (man power). Bubuchiki Godiya, a member of the Federal Taskforce, Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC, said that “the agency received an Intel that Yunusa Adamu was manufacturing unregistered herbal preparation.” He Godiya said that the agency sent some of its team members to investigate and on arrival they found that there were many unregistered herbal drugs.
