Three Nigerian celebrities that have died in January 2023

 In just 18 days into the year 2023, the Nigerian entertainment industry has already witnessed some deaths.

The following are three veterans who died with their names never to be forgotten.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), died on Monday, January 9 in a Lagos hospital at the age of 53.

Before her death, the entrepreneur had said in her last Instagram post that she was on a “coffee break”.

Anyiam-Osigwe, who was until her death, president of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), was described as an outstanding personality, trailblazer, and one-of-a-kind creative and visionary leader in the film and television industry.

President Muhammadu Buhari and many other eminent personalities released statements mourning her.


Sunday Akinola (Baba Feyikogbon)

Veteran actor Sunday Akinola, also known as Baba Feyikogbon’s death was announced on Monday, January 9.

The 80-year-old battled kidney failure, hypertension, and memory loss for many years before his death in 2023.

Akinola hit the limelight with the popular weekly Feyikogbon series, which ran on NTA Channel 7, Lagos for over 13 years between the 80s and 90s.

The Ogun-state-born actor was also a musician and former soldier who was drafted into the Army shortly before the Nigerian Civil War.


Femi Ogunrombi (Papa Ajasco)

Actor and music teacher Femi Ogunrombi, who played the role of Papa Ajasco in WAP TV comedy series Papa Ajasco and Company died on Saturday, January 14.

Ogunrombi studied music and drama at the Obafemi Awolowo University.

He was a multi-instrumentalist, composer, music and film director, and voice trainer.

Ogunrombi stood in for Abiodun Ayoyinka as Papa Ajasco during the latter’s absence from Papa Ajasco & Company.
