Two remanded for beheading Rivers nine-year-old boy, police grant collaborator bail

A magistrate’s court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded two defendants for allegedly beheading a nine-year-old boy, Destiny Peter, in Agbandele community, in the Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The two men, Keneth Sylvanus and Chijioke Ogbonna, are standing trial on three counts of conspiracy and murder.

When the matter was called, Sylvanus informed the court that a third suspect in the case, Chibuzor Amadi, was granted bail by the police before their arraignment.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate I.F. Iyabo, remanded the two defendants and directed the prosecutor to liaise with the attorney general’s office to produce the third accused person on the next adjourned date of Monday, December 6, 2021.

Recall that the three suspects, Sylvanus, Ogbonna and Amadi, were paraded on November 19 by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly beheading the nine-year-old boy in Agbandele.

A spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, in a statement on November 19, 2021, said operatives recovered the dismembered body of the victim, adding that the arrest of the three suspects was through intelligence gathering.

CBN knocks banks for shunning eNaira

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday knocked commercial banks across the country for not promoting the e-Naira launched with fanfare by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), in October, 2021. The apex bank also explained the operational benefits of its newly introduced eNaira to the public. Officials of the CBN took turns in Kaduna on Wednesday to lecture youth corps members, hundreds of students from tertiary institutions across the state and other members of the public on the eNaira initiative.
