Timothy Adegoke’s death: Are police in Osun lying?
by Jamiu Idowu Esho
Timothy Adegoke was found dead on November 15th; Rahman Adedoyin was arrested the same day, within hours. However, the Osun State Police Command claimed that Adedoyin had recorded the viral audio where he denied involvement in Timothy’s death before being arrested.
Here is an excerpt from Adedoyin’s audio (1:16 to 1:30): “…when they did investigation; they saw Timothy’s corpse where it was thrown (buried). When they saw Timothy’s corpse where it was thrown (buried), all the senior police officers present checked all parts of his body; they saw that no part was missing… I appeal to everyone, home and abroad, to be patient and allow the police to do a thorough investigation…”
Now, a quick analysis of the excerpt from Adedoyin’s audio: a) “…they saw Timothy’s corpse where it was thrown (buried)”:
Putting this together with the Police claim, it means Adedoyin recorded the audio between the time Timothy’s corpse was found and the time he (Adedoyin) was arrested.
1. B) “…they saw that no part was missing”: How did Adedoyin know that the Police officers present did not find any part missing in Timothy’s body before he was arrested? It is good to point out that Osun Police PRO first mentioned that no part of Timothy’s body was missing on November 18th. Adedoyin’s audio was released on November 19th.
2. C) “I appeal to everyone, home and abroad, to be patient…”: Adedoyin made the audio to assuage the public and appeal for calm. If police claim that the audio was not recorded in their custody is true, then, Adedoyin must have pre-empted the public reaction that greeted the death of Timothy to quickly make audio for the public before his arrest.
It appears to me that the Osun State Police Command has compromised. In fact, several statements from the Police have suggested that they are not only investigating the matter, they have also assumed the role of defending one of the suspects, Rahman Adedoyin. All eyes are on the Police and any attempt to stop justice from being done will be greatly resisted.
