Professor Atungwu got 450 votes to defeat Professor Idris Ayinde who had 239 votes for the Academic Staff category while Dr. Oludayo Oduwole had 483 votes to beat Mr. Isaq Odunjo who earned 156 votes and Engr. Baba Tahir that got 29 votes for the Non-Teaching Staff slot.
Professor Atungwu is presently the Director, Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), while Dr. Oduwole is a medical practitioner in the University’s Health Centre.
The Registrar and Secretary to Congregation, Dr. Bola Adekola who conducted the election announced that 847 voters were accredited with 13 proxy votes.
Earlier in his State of the University Address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako attributed his administration’s achievements to the efforts and commitment shown by all members of staff of the University, including stakeholders who are not members of the Congregation.
According to him, if the university is not at peace with itself, there would not have been a report of achievements by the administration which he led as the Vice Chancellor.
He, however, reeled-out his administration’s achievements cutting across the length and breadth of the University campus, stating that many of the new buildings are not sited within the core area of the University which many staff do not ply the location route.
Professor Salako noted that the slogan he adopted when applying for the position of Vice Chancellor which is "Excellence cannot be compromised" has become a philosophical statement that drives him to achieve more for FUNAAB, stressing that there is something to be achieved after excellence upon excellence.
He, therefore, thanked all members of staff for having faith in FUNAAB and charged them to work in taking FUNAAB to greater heights after greater heights.
