Adeofun Becomes DVC (Development)

… Works, Health Services Get New Directors
 
The Governing Council has approved the appointment of Prof. Clement Adeofun as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) for the University. Prof. Adeofun was of the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, College of Environmental Resources Management (COLERM), the immediate past Dean of the College, and a Senate representative on the University Governing Council before his appointment..

The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) is a Professor of Environmental Remote Sensing. He bagged all his degrees from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State. Prof. Adeofun is a member of several professional bodies such as the Environmental and Behavioural Association of Nigeria (EBAN), Nigerian Environmental Study/Action Team (NEST), Ecological Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Remote Sensing (NISORS), Forestry Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Field, African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE), and Nigerian Society of Environmental Management (NISEM).

Prof. Adeofun joined the services of the University on October 2, 1991 as a Lecturer II and rose through the ranks to become a Professor with effect from October 1, 2011. He has severed in various capacities within the University as members, such as the Ceremonials Committee, 1992-1995; House and Space Allocation Committee, 1994-1998; Sports Committee, 1994-1998; COLERM representative on Admission Committee, 2002-2004; Timetable Committee, 1999-2002; and Senate representative on Governing Council for two terms, 2018-2019.

Prof. Adeofun has more than 60 scholarly publications to his credit in books, journals and edited conference proceedings. The duties of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) include development-related matters such as exchange and linkages, fund raising, staff development, and co-ordination/integration of operations of some key offices in the University. Prof. Adeofun’s appointment was on the recommendation of Senate and became effective on November 7, 2019, for a period of two years.

In a related development, two accomplished professionals, Dr. Abiodun  Amusan was appointed as the Director, Health Services while Engr. Olawole Akinyele is now the Director, Works and Services of the University. Dr. Amusan was until his appointment, the Acting Director of the University Health Services while Engr. Akinyele was the former Director of Works and Maintenance, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State. Dr. Amusan holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Health Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery MBChB; as well as Master’s of Public Health; all from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. He is a Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Corporate Administration, and Institute of Health Insurance and Managed Care of Nigeria, among others. Dr. Amusan’s work experience spans across Wema Bank Plc; University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital; Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Kano; General Hospital, Birnin Kebbi; Bayero University Kano; and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Health Services.

The Director, Health Services has served in several capacities within and outside the University such as Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission-Anti Corruption and Transparency Unit, FUNAAB, 2013-2017; Patron, Nigeria Red Cross Society, FUNAAB, 2011 till date; Member, Appointment and Promotion Committee for Non-Teaching staff, FUNAAB, 2016 till date; Member, FUNAAB Sports Committee, 2017 till date; Chairman, Electronic Health Record System (EHRS) Implementation Committee of International Centre for Professional Development (ICPD) Board, May, 2018; Medical Director, Ideal Clinics, Abeokuta, 2012 till date; Choir Patron, Celestial Church of Christ, Moore Cathedral, Ile-Ife, Osun State, 2004 till date; among others. Dr. Amusan is a two-time recipient of the FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor’s commendations and beneficiary of Bill Gates Scholarship for Master of Public Health on Population and Reproductive Health through OAU, Ile-Ife/John Hopkins University, USA partnership. His appointment took effect from July 29, 2019.

The new Director of Works and Services is Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria-registered Engineer, and member, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE). He bagged a Diploma in Data Processing and Microcomputer Utilisation from DDK Computer, 1996; Diploma in French Studies, Federal College of Education, Okene, Kogi State, 1999; Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree, Mechanical Engineering, University of Lagos in 1985 and 1987, respectively. His work experience cuts across both the private and public sectors. These include Nigerian Breweries, Ibadan, 1985-1986; Ondo State Ministry of Works and Transport, 1987 - 1988; National Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe, 1988 – 2013, and Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, 2013 -June, 2019. Engr. Akinyele’s appointment was with effect from October 16, 2019.
