Herdsmen stab 49-year-old farmer to death in Ogun

Residents of Adao community in Alabata area of Odeda Local government in Ogun state were thrown into confusion on Sunday when two suspected herdsmen reportedly stabbed a 49-year-old farmer, Rafiu Showemimo to death.

It was gathered that the suspected herdsmen accosted the farmer and stabbed him in the neck on his way back home from the farm around 12 noon .

It was gathered that a 76- year -old man had two weeks ago escaped death after suspected herdsmen macheted him in the head .

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi could not be reached as of the time of filing this report .

However, the Olu of Alabata, Chief Sanusi Waheed who oversees the affected Adao community as one of his consenting communities, among others stressed the need for quick government’s intervention to abort the plans of the youths to foment trouble adding that the herders had crossed their boundaries.

He said ” The Fulanis have crossed their boundaries and we can’t condole them anymore, there is need for urgent intervention of the government in the Fulani/herdsmen problems in this community and country.

” We would do all within our powers in communicating our plight to the government”.

When our correspondent visited the community, the youths were sighted standing at strategic points in their numbers and armed with local guns, cutlasses and charms.

Plane Blown Off Runway At Stornoway Airport

A plane carrying 28 people has been blown off the runway at Stornoway airport in the Isle of Lewis. The Loganair Saab 340 aircraft had been trying to take-off for Glasgow when its wheel collapsed in heavy winds and it veered off the runway. Two passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to the Scottish Ambulance Service. Stornoway Airport management issued a statement shortly after the incident saying: "Efforts to remove the aircraft from the runway are ongoing and investigations into the cause of the incident are under way. "It is it our intention to resume normal operations as soon as the aircraft is safely removed from the runway. "There are no scheduled arrivals or departures at Stornoway until later this afternoon." General dies of COVID-19 in Abuja

The General Officer Commanding 6th Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Maj-Gen. Johnson Olu Irefin has reportedly died of complications associated with the Coronavirus pandemic. The sudden death of Irefin, who assumed the command of the division in July 2020 replacing Maj.-Gen. Felix Agugo, was said to have thrown the army into mourning. Though the Army Public Relations Officer, Maj. Charles Ekeocha, kept mum over the development, a senior military officer from Abuja confirmed it describing his death as shocking. He said: “One of our fine officers is dead. He is the GOC 6th Division.
