A Group can not impose candidate on Nigerians - Hon Oyapidan

The National Chairman of Progressive Group of Nigeria, Hon. John Olusola Oyapidan, while responding to questions and answers on a Yoruba current affair program on Sweet 107.1 FM, Aye Kooto, on Monday 30th April, 2018, said "no group can impose candidate on Nigerians.

Hon Oyapidan said, Permanent Voters Card (PVC)  is an ultimate power for all voters to exercise their civic right in electing the candidate of their choice.

He encouraged and motivated Nigerians above 18 years to get registered and have PVC, which is the power to vote.

He added that "I was in a town in Ado odo ota where I heard that people are selling their PVC for 3,000 or 5,000 naira.

"There are many danger in selling PVC because the card can not be useful for the person that bought it because it has your picture and it is protected by your fingerprints, this will render it useless.

He later pleaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to please make all facilities needed to be available and sight an example of some centres that says that there is no power supply to print PVC.

That "there are some people that registered at a location due to NYSC or before marriage and after relocation they can not have their PVC, let INEC announces or publish all the names and collection centres for easy collection by citizen.

He added that "Progressive Group of Nigeria is a non governmental, non political Organisation that serves as an intermediaries between the citizen (voters)  and contestants (politicians) by creating an avenue for the contestants to involve in debates and manifesto before election and to remind them of their promises after the election

"If we invite a contestant that see us as an intermediary, he will definitely honour our invite.

On youth participation in 2019 election, he said "In PGN, majority of the executives are youth and women and we should give youth a chance, Agba kiiwa loja, kori omotuntun o wo, the elders will still be putting them through one or two things.

"After the militaries, the democracy always head by adult or ex-millitaries, let us give a technocrats a chance to rule, PGN will never impose candidate but rather organise debate for all candidates contesting".
