To teach ex-wife a lesson, distraught man literally cuts all belongings in half

A man literally cut in half his car, DVD player, and laptop, among many other items, after a judge ordered him to “split” all his belongings with his ex-wife. It was only when the Suddeutsche Zeitung, a German-based newspaper, revealed the shocking truth behind the man’s actions did people come to understand his grief.

Divorce is a tragedy. The grief of being betrayed by your partner could perhaps be even worse than the pain of losing your loved one to death. This feeling was best illustrated by Sue Merrell, in her book Great News Town: “Losing a mate to death is devastating, but it’s not a personal attack like divorce. When somebody you love stops loving you and walks away, it’s an insult beyond comparison.”

If that feeling Merrell wrote about in her book is accurate, it could justify the unusual actions of this distraught and irate husband.

To settle the divorce, the courts instructed the husband to “split” all his belongings and share half of them with his wife.

Going insanely angry, he literally sliced all his belongings he shared with his ex-wife, from the car, bicycle, sofa, iPhone, laptop, television, to a teddy bear, in neat and “equally” sliced halves.

A video of the distraught man named Der Juli, cutting up his belongings, has since been uploaded on YouTube with a caption that reads: “Thank you for 12 “beautiful years,” Laura! You’ve really earned half. Greetings also to my successor.”

The video, which drew a lot of criticism, soon went viral, with over 7 million views. Some viewers rebuked his extreme actions as “shameful,” until the Suddeutsche Zeitung, a German-based newspaper, revealed the shocking truth behind the man’s actions.

The attention-grabbing story of this man, who split all belongings in half, is actually fictitious, the Suddeutsche Zeitung reported. This is actually one of the guerrilla-marketing gimmicks engaged by a group of German lawyers to call attention to their divorce firms.

However, a German man did chainsaw a family home in two when he divorced his wife on Sept. 7, 2005. He drove away with his split home on a forklift!
