I'm not under House arrest - Kwankwaso

Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso has declared that he is not under house arrest. He also denied ever been invited my the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  over any allegation bordering on fraud as reported in the media.

The former governor who is one of the strong pillars of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also noted that at no time was he placed under house arrest, or that he was afraid to come out of his house for fear of being arrested as insinuated in the media.

A statement signed by Muhammed Inuwa Ali, his Principal Private Secretary said, “The attention of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, representing Kano Central Senatorial District was drawn by some of his political supporters in Kano regarding a libelous and unfounded petition against his person at EFCC by his political opponents sometime in May, 2015.

“The supporters sought the Senator’s permission to institute legal action against the said petitioners to which he consented. “However, to the Senator’s surprise, the supporters and their lawyers instituted an action against the EFCC.

“Conversely, Senator Kwankwaso has instructed his supporters and their lawyers to discontinue the matter against the EFCC with immediate effect, while the unfounded libelous case against his person will continue.

“To set the records straight, Senator Kwankwaso was not invited by the EFCC, nor was he ever placed under house arrest or prevented from discharging his legislative or personal duties by any agency.

“As a Distinguished legislator, he is ever willing and ready to support and strengthen our anti-graft agencies in the fight against corruption in Nigeria”.

A well known broadcaster and musician, Mr Oluwole Osikoya Popularly called Gbenga Allyson or Shoshogirisho, said in a media chat in Abeokuta that the last multi talented broadcaster, producer and entertainer, Prince Gbenga Adeboye, gave him his nickname. John Owolotan Okenla hailed from Itoku township in the Egba Alake section of Egbaland. The date of his birth is not known. He was from among the Egba people that migrated from the erstwhile homestead of the Egba (popularly called  Igbo Egba , Egba Forest) and who were en route from Ibadan to Abeokuta under the leadership of Chief Sodeke in 1830. University Union Demands 496bn Naira From Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has demanded the full release of 495 billion Naira, being the funds needed to revamp Nigeria’s  universities, as contained in an agreement entered into with the Federal Government seven years ago. The union said that the government had consistently reneged on the agreement. According to ASUU, the government’s technical committee, which reviewed downwards ASUU’s 1.5 trillion Naira estimate needed to lift the tertiary institutions from their current rot, to about 800 billion Naira.
