13 Year Old Boy Electrocuted In Kano

A 13-year-old boy, Bashir Auwalu, was on
Sunday electrocuted at Na’ibawa Tsakia
quarters in Kano metropolis.
The incident, triggered protests as some
youths took to the streets, after Bashir
Auwalu, was electrocuted.
The unfortunate incident occurred at No.
842, Naibawa Tsakia Quarters of Kumbotso
Local Government Area of the state around
5.30 a.m. on Sunday.
According to an eyewitness, the deceased
allegedly stepped on a live cord in front of
his house, while easing himself in
preparation for his early morning Muslim
prayers.
Bashir, who suffered multiple shock, was
found dead shortly after the incident by
his father, while returning home from a
neighbourhood mosque.
According to him, “his death was one of the
many trials from the Almighty and it
occurred in fulfilment of destiny”.
Assistant General Manager, Kano
Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO),
Mukhtar Baffa, while commenting on the
incident, described it as unfortunate,
adding that, “it might not be unconnected
with illegal connection.”
He revealed that KEDCO authority has
embarked on public awareness campaign on
the danger posed by illegal connection,
stressing that the unwholesome practice
constitute danger to both life and free
flow distribution of power.
In his reaction, the police Image Maker in
Kano, ASP Magaji Musa Majia disclosed that
the command is not aware of the incident.
"The incident was not reported but we
would launch an investigation to establish
why what happened occurred and take
appropriate measures to forestall re-
occurrence", ASP Majia assures.
