Two INEC officials caught moving sensitive materials in Osun

Two INEC officials in Obokun LGA area were earlier this morning (around 3am) arrested for diverting sensitive election materials. One of the suspects, the Electoral Officer for the LGA, confessed to the act but refused to name those who sent him as he pleaded for mercy. However, he did not deny when confronted that he was sighted inside vehicles belong to a PDP stalwart in Obokun. His phone call log also showed clearly that he’s had constant voice and SMS communication with the PDP chief . The vigilant people of Otan-Ile would have lynched the suspects but for the intervention of police officers. The INEC vehicle with registration number FG816V01 used in transporting the materials and the suspects involved are presently held at the State CID of the Police Command in Oshogbo. A well known broadcaster and musician, Mr Oluwole Osikoya Popularly called Gbenga Allyson or Shoshogirisho, said in a media chat in Abeokuta that the last multi talented broadcaster, producer and entertainer, Prince Gbenga Adeboye, gave him his nickname. John Owolotan Okenla hailed from Itoku township in the Egba Alake section of Egbaland. The date of his birth is not known. He was from among the Egba people that migrated from the erstwhile homestead of the Egba (popularly called  Igbo Egba , Egba Forest) and who were en route from Ibadan to Abeokuta under the leadership of Chief Sodeke in 1830. He was probably a middle aged man at that time. He became a Christian when the missionaries arrived in Abeokuta in 1842 and was one of the early converts. University Union Demands 496bn Naira From Federal Government

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has demanded the full release of 495 billion Naira, being the funds needed to revamp Nigeria’s  universities, as contained in an agreement entered into with the Federal Government seven years ago. The union said that the government had consistently reneged on the agreement. According to ASUU, the government’s technical committee, which reviewed downwards ASUU’s 1.5 trillion Naira estimate needed to lift the tertiary institutions from their current rot, to about 800 billion Naira. ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator, Professor Beke Sese, on Thursday told reporters in a press conference in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, that aside the initial tranche that was eventually released in 2013, the government had refused to credit a dedicated account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) set up for that purpose.
