EFCC Arraigns Man For N16m Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 arraigned one Bashir Salihu before Justice M. Talba of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Gudu, Abuja on a 2-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and issuance of dud cheque. Salihu allegedly obtained the sum of sixteen million naira (N16m) as loan from one Ramatu A Isiaq for the construction of perimeter fence of Niger Delta Science, Technology and Bio Industrial Park in Sagbama, Bayelsa State. The accused is said to have promised to repay the loan with interest within three months but failed to do so. All efforts to recover the money proved futile.

APC's Abubakar wins in Bauchi

In Bauchi State, Mr Mohammed Abubakar of the APC won the governorship election. Abubakar scored 654,934 votes to beat his main challenger, Auwal Jatau of the PDP who scored 282,650 votes across the 20 local councils of the state. Abubakar won in 19 local councils while Jatau, who won only in Bogoro local government area of the state where he polled 16,980 votes as against the APC which had 9,914 votes. The Bauchi State returning officer, Mohammed Kabiru Faruk, a Professor and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State who announced the results at the INEC office in Bauchi returned Abubakar as the winner after meeting all the requirments.

EFCC arrests Ilorin pastor over alleged N3.9m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested an Ilorin based clergyman, Prophet Adeniyi James, for allegedly defrauding a member of his church to the tune of N3.9 million. A statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Saturday, said the Ilorin Zonal Command arrested James on April 2, 2024 for the alleged offence. It was gathered that James is the General Overseer of Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry in Ilorin. Many feared missing, properties destroyed after massive flood in Ogun

Many, including mother and child, are feared missing  and billions of naira worth of properties destroyed by ravaging massive flood in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, and its environs following about two hours torrential rain that pounded the city on Friday evening. Scores of residents were sacked from their homes and shops when their apartments were either submerged or brought down by the flood. Household items, goods and other valuables were destroyed. In Amolasho and Kuto, major commercial areas of Abeokuta, goods and structures worth  millions of naira were swept away and emptied into a canal by the Isabo state High court area where the flood was most violent and fiercest. UK to deport many Nigerian nurses over examination fraud

The United Kingdom’s Home Office has asked some Nigerian nurses being probed for alleged examination fraud to leave the country. According to Nursing Times, the affected nurses are still awaiting the outcomes of their appeals. However, they have received official letters from the Home Office instructing them to leave the UK starting next week. The deportation order follows an ongoing probe by the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) into suspected malpractice at Yunnik Technologies Test Centre in Ibadan, Nigeria. Campaigners and advocates have called on the regulator to expedite hearings to prevent the nurses from being repatriated before their appeals are fully considered. Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram members yesterday invaded Garubula village, Biu local Government area of Borno State, killing the District Head, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi, and 11 others. Two people suspected to be members of vigilante youth a.k.a as civilian JTF, were last night dragged from their houses to a river bank in Gamboru Ngala border town with Cameroon Republic and killed them. Two people suspected to be a motorist and a passenger, were ambushed and shot dead along Maiduguri – Gamboru Ngala road.The Maiduguri – Gamboru Ngala road came under attack on Tuesday by terrorists with the blowing of the the bridge linking the town with Cameroon Republic.
