Facebook changes name to ‘Metaverse’

Facebook on Thursday announced that it has changed its company name to ‘Meta’. This rebranding is coming amid series of scrutiny and widespread backlash over its business practices. According to its founder Mark Zuckerberg, the new name won’t affect how the company uses or shares data and the corporate structure isn’t changing. The company said its stock will start trading under a new ticker, MVRS, on Dec. 1. The new holding company Meta will encompass Facebook, its largest subsidiary, as well as apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and the virtual reality brand Oculus. “Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company and I want to anchor our work and our identity on what we’re building towards,” he told a virtual conference. “We’re now looking at and reporting on our business as two different segments, one for our family of apps, and one for our work on future platforms. “And as part of this, it is time for us to adopt a new company brand to encompass everything that we do to re

NANNM laments shortage of nurses in Ogun

A map of Ogun state The Chairperson of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives in Ogun State, Roseline Solarin, has raised the alarm over the ‘acute shortage’ of nurses in the state. Solarin said this on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 2021 Annual Nurses Week held at the Nurse’s house in Abeokuta, the state capital. She claimed that at least, three health workers in the state travel out of Nigeria weekly in search of greener pastures. Solarin added that about 215 nurses across 20 local government areas of the state were expected to handle 448 functional health facilities. She said, “In Ogun State today, the total number of nurses that we have in the 20 local government areas are about 215 and we have 448 functional health facilities. “So, if you want to put a nurse in each facility, will it go round? Moreover, we have comprehensive health centres where you require about 10 nurses to be in that centre, and the last time that employment was done at the local level was 2006.”

Arsene Wenger finally gets new coaching job

Legendary Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, will finally return to management for the first time since leaving the Gunners in January 2018. Wenger is participating in the 2022 Riyadh Season Cup, coaching a combined team consisting of players from two of the Kingdom’s biggest clubs. It’s Wenger’s first professional coaching role since ending his 22-year stint at Arsenal. The Riyadh Season begins this month, with global entertainment festivals running until March next year. The events will be spread across 14 different zones in the Saudi Arabian capital. One of those will be the Riyadh Season Cup, where a team of Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr players will take on European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain that boast the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Wenger will take charge of the home team as Saudi Arabia welcomes PSG for the first time in the third week of 2022.
