Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has confirmed that the Tokyo Olympics has been postponed until next summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. International Olympic Committee member chief Dick Pound revealed on Monday night that it was all but certain that the Games would be moved to 2021. "> The Olympics will not take place in Tokyo this summer as scheduled And speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Abe revealed that the International Olympic Committee had agreed to his proposal. “I proposed to postpone for about a year and [IOC] president Thomas Bach responded with 100% agreement,” Abe said. COVID-19: OGUN TO DISTRIBUTE "NOT FOR SALE" HAND SANITIZERS

The Ogun State Government has announced that it would distribute "not for sale" hand sanitizers, as part of measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19. The State Ministry of Health and Hospital Management Board are reported to have produced the hand sanitizers for mass distribution across the State. The State Government advised everyone within the State to make themselves available and accessible to receive the facility. It also reminded the general public to maintain social distance from the distributing officials, who have been especially trained for the exercise. The sanitizers, the Government warned, are not to be sold under any circumstance, and they should not be viewed or used as a vaccine or drug, but as a handwashing facility to be used externally. The Government went further to advise parents and adults to ensure that the use of the sanitizers by children is done under their supervision.

OGUN ANNOUNCES FURTHER MEASURES TO COMBAT COVID-19 Ogun State Government, Monday, announced new measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The decisions were taken after the daily review of developments at a meeting chaired by the Incident Commander, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, Governor of Ogun State. Besides the lowering of the threshold of people who may gather in one place at a time from 50 to 20, the Government wishes to further state that: 1.  PUBLIC / CIVIL SERVICE:  All heads of State Ministries, Departments and Agencies and Local Governments are to draw up rosters that would ensure that not more than 20 percent of staff across all cadres work daily, thus ensuring that most staff come to work once a week. Health Workers, Fire Service and Ogun State Emergency Management Authority (OGSEMA) are exempted from this arrangement. The Lagos state government has hinted at asking churches and mosques to suspend services over coronavirus. Gbenga Omotoso, commissioner for information, gave the hint at a press briefing on Wednesday. He said the government would soon suggest to religious leaders to halt services, especially where there are large gatherings.

PRESS STATEMENT   COVID-19: Ogun bans high density gatherings   Further to measures so far taken to ramp up its efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the Ogun State Government has found it expedient to announce the following additional measures:   • Immediate ban of all high-densitygatherings that would bring together 50 or more persons in the same place, such as social clubs, halls, cinemas, night clubs, restaurants, cafes, and sport arenas. This measure will be in effect for the next 30 days in the first instance.   A statement issued on Wednesday said this restriction has to be enforced without prejudice to people’s fundamental rights to association and movement, because safety of our people and their welfare are priorities that cannot be toyed with. A six-week old baby has become the youngest Nigerian, to test positive to the coronavirus.  This was confirmed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, via his verified Twitter page.   Five new cases confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Health on Wednesday. Giving a break down of that number, Ogunlesi said  “3 arrived from the US (2 of them Nigerians, a mother and her 6-week old baby), 2 arrived from the UK (both Nigerians)   “4 of them Nigerians (one a 6-week old baby – youngest victim so far), fifth one a foreign national who came in through the land border, the first case of infection via land border in Nigeria.”   Four of the patients are in Lagos, while one is in Ekiti state.   According to him, “all are being followed up and supported by State Health Authorities and The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)”.

Suspected Coronavirus Patient Who Tested Positive Dies In Enugu Isolation Centre

The Enugu suspected Coronavirus patient quarantined in the state isolation centre has reportedly died. It was reliably gathered on Wednesday morning that the woman died on Sunday even before the state Ministry of Health came out to declare that the woman was negative to the novel virus.   Family sources told newsmen that the septuagenarian was taken to the Colliery Hospital where the state had dedicated for the treatment of infectious diseases and allegedly abandoned the woman without any medical treatment.  In a letter, the daughter wrote to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, decried the manner her mother was treated, which she said caused her death.   The letter, which was obtained by our correspondent, reads:   “My dear Governor, Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi.   “I am writing on behalf of myself and family in regards to the 70-year-old woman suspected of the Covid-19 in Enugu published on Saturday 14...
